Awesome rifle. I agree that getting mine shortened changed it completely. ADCO does great work. Enjoy it and thank you for your service.

SBRed both my 16 and 17.... I saw a Ranger Regiment dude (Corporal) at Bagram during an Air Mission Brief with a MK16 (SCAR 16) wearing an AAC 18T mount, EoTech 553, and PEQ.... my guess was that it was an arms room relic, as every single other person rocked a Block II M4A1 with a select few brining MK17s and M110s along... perhaps that arms room relic was a converted MK17... I saw lots of guys using the 13 inch Heavy configs with suppressors. The spooks pretty much all used SCARs in 5.56 and 7.62, but mostly 7.62. all the cool guy kit... thanks for sharing! |

You are correct, I did have the Branham rail installed for a while and there was nothing wrong with it other than it was a bit heavy and girthy for my liking. The PMM rail extension and side/bottom rails are basically a lighter and slimmer configuration and while I haven't had the chance to shoot, I like the way it feels dry firing. Cheers |

Curious why you went with the black MREX rail over the FDE? Cheers The Elcan looks at home too! I bought the gun used and that what the gentlemen before me had out on it. I would prefer an fde one So I rock an elcan 1-4 on my SCAR and have shot it with my Vortex PST 2.5-10 power scope as well and shot it out to 650 yards on IPSC steel targets with 147 grain ball and 168 grain FGMM and 168 grain reloads. Honestly, I use mine like a really expensive battle rifle mostly. Its certainly capable with match ammo, as ive shot 1 MOA groups with it and averaged 1.5 MOA on most days, but I put the Vortex on my 5.56 SPR build as I like shooting that better with that scope and kept the Elcan on the SCAR. Before I shot it a lot I liked the idea of having mil holder overs taped to the stock and memorized for known distances, however, I would forget or get them mixed up, so for fast shots at distance and just getting hits on steel, for a battle rifle, I feel like the Elcan 1-4 with the BDC is the way to go, but if you are more keen to do precision work and don't have another rifle or a bolt gun to do it with it, then perhaps leave the scope on. Oh, and those shots are with the 13 inch SBR barrel... that's why I like the ELCAN more I guess. And the BDC is still pretty much on at distance, although I hold maybe just a little high on the BDC holds |

also, i'll post the groups next time I go shoot my SCAR 16 SBR, but its pretty shoddy with both 55 grain M193 and 62 grain M855 but seems to do okay with 77 grain match (but so does everything else I shoot it out of)...
I put a Geissle trigger in it and shot it with and without the surefire can on it. Just throwing it out there to see what kind of groups you guys get. Was zeroing it at 50 meters and its like 3-4 inches with 5 shot groups. Not sure if im that crappy of a shot, but my MK18 Mod 0 clone with do 2 inches at 50 meters without trying too hard. Just curious. I know its a combat rifle but was surprised that it was doing worse than say... that new X95... |

Are those duty ammo groups? what were you feeding it? and if you don't mind me asking, does your department have an issue load they prefer in 5.56? Thanks for sharing! |

Issued ammo for the PD is Winchester Q3131 55 grain FMJ with a cannalure. That is what I shot the groups with. I figured a 62-64 grain bullet would have been better but that was not bad at all. The SCAR shot very well. I am a big AR15 guy but I really liked the SCAR. |

I cant say how accurate the 16 inch barrel would be vs the 13 inch (negligible would be my guess), but it still shoots sub MOA with FGMM 168s with or without the suppressor mounted. Would have been fine with a pinned 14.5 if the barrel wasn't already cut to 14 inches, but a 13 inch .308 with the size and weight of the SCAR, even with the suppressor, really is the bees knees if you want to spit out .308 pills... As far as shooting it at distance, I was getting those hits with 147 grain NATO. I used to be a "the ELCAN isn't worth the money blah blah go buy an ACOG with RMR kind of guy" The ELCAN really does shine with the eye box and eye relief when mounted to a .308. Clarity is superb and I echo the above post that I don't think I would be any more capable with a 1-6 scope or a 2.5-10x scope. I used to LOVE having mils and data to apply to hold overs or dial in whatever you needed. But my SCAR, as configured with the ELCAN, is sort of a cross between a battle rifle and a DMR. I wanted something I could hold a BDC on and swag a wind hold (either left edge or right edge of the target) and make hits on steel targets out to 600 meters (roughly 650 yards). I can do that with decent repeatability with the SCAR, and if I zeroed it with 168 grain or even 155 grain going as fast as possible, I bet I could do it even better. I think anything past 600 - 700 meters or so shooting at man sized targets that youll really need a different gun, or at least throw the 16 inch barrel in the scar and put a scope on it. But you can lob rounds out there all day and probably do some decent work with it In short, the more I shoot it, the more I love it. Also, I'll probably pick up a DPMS Recon G2 and put a MI handguard, MicroMOA gas block, and 2.5-10 power scope on top to fit the DMR role. |

What is it doing as far as bullet energy at 600ish yards with a barrel that short? I kind of want to SBR my 17 but I don't want to neuter it. From the numbers I'm looking at, at least if I'm not way off base, if you push 168 grain pill out of a 13 inch barrel, at the muzzle I think most loads hover around 2300 fps or so... at 600 yards its still going around 1300-1400 fps... which to me, equates to getting hit with a .357 magnum at the muzzle, which is nothing to scoff at really. .308s don't suffer as much when you start cutting the barrel back. Sure, youll have to fight the wind a lot more with a shorter barrel and a slower bullet, but its still effective. so I guess you just have to define what you want to do with yours. DMR/precision role? I would keep the 16 inch barrel. Want a CQC brawler gun that handles more like a 5.56 but totes that 7.62 firepower? The SCAR 17 CQC is the ticket. OR, you could just get another barrel and have both configurations at your disposal... the concept great, I just don't like swapping optics and barrels and pulling stuff off the gun. Would rather have a second gun. Hell, for the price of a new SCAR barrel you could buy another gun. Sorry if I come off as repetitive, I just think the SCAR is the BEST all around battle rifle you can configure into whatever you want it to be. Ive tried to run PTR-91s and FALs against the SCAR in the same drills, etc... SCAR is just hard to beat. |

Did you need to play with the gas jets after the chop? I just SBR'd mine and haven't shot it yet. I bought the full gas jet kit but want to see how it ran first. Are you using the factory jet? I'm going to suppress mine as well and wonder if it will be over or under gassed. |

The 16S was tuned properly and after a little bit of a break in, it runs super smooth and has perfect 3-4 o'clock ejection unsuppressed and with a Surefire SOCOM SB in the suppressed setting its about the smoothest recoil impulse ive felt. The more I shoot it the more I like it.. As for the 17S, I was initially disappointed when I took it out the first time. Even with an AAC Brakeout 2.0, I felt like the gun was kicking the shit out of me unsuppressed and with the suppressor on it felt like I was shooting a .50 cal. I cant find my paperwork right now to see what port he had installed, but it was WAY overgassed. After swapping it out it shoots like a dream. Swapped out the AAC Brakout 2.0 for the 51T flash hider. Less bang and noise without the can and with the can its a smooth shooter. EDIT: Found my paperwork, 17S came back from PMM with a 1.85 gas port... dropped down to a 1.7 and its a champ with a 1.7. I google-foo'ed and found that most people run around that gas port +/- .05 with good results I think PMM ships them back overgassed for reliability I guess... but the 1.7 runs everything I put in it from 147 to 175 grain ha, and now here I am bringing gas port size discussions to the SCAR thread... those belong in the MK18 thread... |

I cut mine down to 14.5" and it was way over gassed, I think it was before but I never shot it. I used a 1.35 jet and its perfect.
