As much as I like the Elcan I think the Vortex 1-10x is the way to go.  That seems like the perfect 17 setup.

Agreed and unfortunately mine is only the 1-6x but the 1-10x is on my wish-list along with a 20S.  Not sure what optics i'll go with on the 20S though.

I'm thinking of going old school - Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 in an ADM Delta mount.

[Last Edit: wayfaerer320] [#10]
Anyone have the NX8 4-32X50 on their SCAR (or really any rifle for that matter)?

It's not much more than the NXS 3-15X50 and it's FFP and has more reticle choices.

I would definitely go FFP.

I’ve had a good amount of experience with the NXS line in a few flavors  and owned a couple 3.5-15x50 but both were the F1 model with FFP reticle. When I got my 20s I had initially decided on the NX8 4-32 but as reviews came out and I thought more about how I was actually going to use the rifle I decided a forgiving eye box was a higher priority than size, weight, mag range or cost. That lead me back to the 4-16 ATACR as the best choice for me other than spending almost 2x on a S&B 5-20US.

I decided to go with the NX8 4-32X50 F1 - it's actually a really nice light and small package considering the mag range and features:

I'm fighting the urge not to sell my 17 right now...

If FN ever released 5.56 conversion kits for the 17, I'd hold onto it.

I have found the 17 to be the sweet spot as far as accuracy and capability go.   I still love my 20S but the 17 performs very well in comparison while being both lighter and shorter.  I don't shoot much beyond 500 yards, so that is a factor.

Got a chance to take advantage of the spring weather and put rounds 61-103 through the 20S. These were my first hand loads trying to replicate M118LR/Mk316 along with some of the real deal to use as a baseline.

I blame my slummy looking groups on a jacked up shooting position. It was a nice day and the range was really busy so I didn’t have much time to setup the chronograph and had to shoot prone with the bipod legs fully extended on top of a sandbag in order to not shoot the chrony.

My lot of M118LR is loaded with 43.1gr of RL-15 and runs right at 2550 from my 20” barrel. My first sting of LR didn’t register so I shot 3 more at the other target after a position adjustment and got the 3 rounds to record 2531, 2557, 2534.

All the ammo I loaded was in 1x fired LC LR 13 brass and CCI BR-4 primers. First up 42.8gr of RL-15, avg 2583 with a ES of 50 and SD of 21. I didn’t bother to shoot the 43.1 or 43.4 I loaded as I was already over the 2550 target. Switched to IMR 4064 and had crono troubles with the first load of 41.4 but 41.8 and 42.2 recorded all 5 shots. 41.8 avg 2510 ES 32 SD 12 and 42.2 avg 2540 ES 38 SD 16. I also had good results with IMR 4895 but again the old shooting chrony let me down and I only got one complete string recorded at 41gr with an avg of 2537 ES 23 SD 11. The 5 shot sting of 41.4 printed a nice group but I only had 3 velocities recorded and they had an ES of 74.

I think I’ll load up a bunch with 42.2 and 42.4 of IMR 4064 and 41 and 41.2 of the 4895 next and see how they do at distance.

I have a lot of wiggle, left to right, in my ACR stock with KDG adapter. It doesn’t look like it can be adjusted by tightening anything down. Are there any fixes for this? It’s significant enough to be annoying. I don’t remember it always being like this and I barely ever shoot it so not sure how it could have came loose. Thanks

Since you already have the traditional SCAR buttstock on there, why not turn it into a clone of the current French issued SCAR-H PR Sniper Rifle:

It’s just a matter of time. Only question now is 16” or 14.5”? Keep the same profile or try and lighten it? I think dimples like my EMC had would be awesome.

The only think that makes me hesitant is the .55” group followed by the .8” group from a completely different load i shot last time out. This thing is proving to be very accurate and forgiving with different loads. If I cut it and it gets worse I’ll be pissed.
