Thanks, now I have to work on shortening the barrel. I've put 500 rounds through this sweetheart without a FTF. ADCO 62 gr. + S&B 55 gr. + winchester Q3131A all good! The rifle is so well balnced that you could use it as a large pistol.

mcgyver007,

What type of sling is that and what type of hardware/accessories did you use to mount it?

I would love to get a forend that lets me put a light in that way without having to rely on any rails or other stuff.  My original forend does not have the punch out section.

Some glamour shots of my favorite Belgian beer and what's quickly becoming my favorite rifle:

I didn't have any Belgian ammo, so Radway will have to do.  I should also point out the magazine is a pre-ban CI, no mag came with the rifle per NY laws.

ETA: My rifle is a 006XXX SN, it does have the punch out for light attachment on the forearm.

I purchased mine on june 3rd and most of the ones I have gotten in at my shop have been equiped with the light compatable foregrip but it seems they have changed the design on some of them. I swaped the body on mine with black, but the ones that are comming in black have all been light compatable One of the green oned I had did not have the punch outs so I dont know wich ones have them and wich ones don't. As for the sling I built it myself using parts from my old Ar-15 sling.

How do you tell if it has the punchout from the outside?

Also, assuming it does have the punchout, what light did you choose Macgyver?

What dimensions will it accommodate?

thanks

It will acomidate almost any light up to 1.25 inch dimiter and as long as it is short enough to fit inside the leingth of the grip it will work the grip is hallow so not difficult to do. I used the pelican HID compact and it has functioned great. From the outside of the grip you can tell if it is compatable by the presence of a small hole about 1/16th inch wide by 1/4 inch long running along the seam on the bottom of the grip just in front of the part that extends over the trigger guard. this is used for the light remote switch cable or you can drill a hole wharever you want to posision the pressure pad on your gun.

By the way this rifle is as accurate as my 16" AR but feels so much better in my hands.

Judochop- I have a few questions...

What brand of sling are you using?  Also where did you get it?

From the picture, it looks like the cord for the second light is threaded through the ejection channel.  Was the target you shot done with the rifle in the configuration shown in the picture?  Did you experience any issue with the spent casings catching the cord?

[Last Edit: Judochop] [#18]
I made the sling  in the picture however since then I now have a 3-point tactical sling on her, much better. The  push switch cord is threaded through the cooling vents on the side, the ejection tube itself has its own specific chute that only the rounds can enter and exit,( not accessable from the side). The cord doesn't get snagged on anything at all in that configuration. I have shot this in various styles such as rapid fire, bench rested, and on the move, and haven't had but one Jam (900 rounds) and I think it was operator error. I shoot it just like you see it. I love my AR-M4 but this is certainly a big step up.

Nice Pics Judo...   Close ups Especially.

I was just digging on the close up shots and wanna see more.

Fantastic pics Judo!  How long is the trigger group housing?  Inches front to back?  Just trying to get perspective.  Thanks!

2 More questions...

1. What is the bolt carrier made of?  I am speaking of the large H-shaped part.  Is it metal or polymer?
2. Is there plenty of room in the receiver around the bolt carrier?  I know the the AR its really tight and that can cause malfs when debris gets in there.  Is there enough space in the 2000 for debris to accumulate without affecting reliability?

Thanks again..

Cast (I think) aluminum.

The carrier runs on rails inside the receiver.  I'd say it's pretty tight in some places, but the rifle is built with a number of safeguards to prevent debris from accumulating inside  the action, including magazine well dust gaskets and an ispection cover that closes tightly enough to keep most anything but water out.

Thanks Thirsty!  looking at the shape of the carrier it seems as if there would have to be a little more space than in an AR.  Also, I'm sure those safeguards work pretty well at keeping stuff out.  In the article Guns and Weapons they said the internals were basically sealed against outside debris.  Definitely a big advantage in sand.  Thanks!

The bolt carrier is most definitely made of steel.

There is lots of room for gunk to fall out of the way of the moving parts and drop into the bottom of the stock/housing.

Has anyone an idea what the steel piece in the trigger pack is for?

Thanks 1811GNR!  Extra space is a major feature for me.

ONE MORE THING...

The FS only fits regular 30 round mags. I have a C-Mag and 2 30/45 polymers that refuse to go in there. They end up grinding up the inside. I ddn't actually try the C-Mag b/c you can see it doesn't fit just by looking at it. I was thinking about getting a 2nd set of furniture, once available (and depending on co$t) and taking the old dremel to it to try this out. What do you guys think? The original pic is by Judochop and I photoshopped it. From the look of photochop, it might not fit a CMag but it may fit the 30/45s or others (like 10 or 20 rounders)...?

This is my current project, With the Gemtech Halo silencer installed on the 16" barrel it's overall leingth is still shorter than my 14.5" M4

This is not the Gemtech but its dementions are Identical to the Halo

Just a gut reaction, but I don't think I have the balls to take a dremal to my nearly $2000 dollar rifle so it could use a $20 magazine.
