I wanted to get on here and thank Tony again for all his help.  I have been searching for an m16 locally for a while with the hopes of having enough knowledge with me to aid with inspection of one and the possibility of closing a deal on one.  Given this is my first transferable m16, this was an overwhelming task considering the amount of money involved.  I have done as much research online as I can during this process.  Tony has shared so much knowledge as he normally does on this forum.  He has answered numerous questions on emails and has even taken the time to talk.  Very nice guy and an asset to the community.  I am about to close on a deal this week as long as all goes well.  I will post pics soon.  Thanks.

Thank you very much Tony!!!

I might be moving from a frankford receiver to a colt M16 or maybe HRA soon, got a lead for a another good machine gun?  I dont need NIB but would like one in spec that has been treated well or at least been through US Anodizing and came out sweet.
We have the frankford and a AR15 conversion so I might bite the bullet for a real one after this house sells

Why not send your Frankdord or AR15 RR off to get worked on?

Unless youre just looking to own the real deal Colt, in which case rock out

I might do that, the finish on mine is ok, looks like a selector idiot mark under the finish but it works.  Im thinking a M16 has a place in the collection

Because it is not a transferable Colt M16A1. Instead, it is an 80 percent receiver that I had engraved by braceman and reprofiled

to match my A1, then finished and registered as an SBR.

You had me worried there for a second.  "Has Tony lost his minds???!!!"  Haha.

That's awesome.  Same serial number too right?  I want an SBR that looks like my Colt M16 A1 Carbine.

I think it's been about 12yr since Tony help guide me into 2 RR's and even before that, my coveted LRM M169.  I'll be forever grateful for the knowledge he imparted on me and that he continues to bless the readers of AR15.com.

Thanks again Tony!

Yup. I had my son, an 07/02, do the remaining milling, and so he had to engrave his maker's marks discreetly on the right side of the receiver. Since it was already engraved, I gave him one of my M16 sub-16" uppers to mount on it and he filed a form 2. Now I have a clone of my '16.

Very nice looking, I was convinced it was real and a little worried you just violated a colt RR haha
Should look into getting a fake sear pin installed. A couple people over in the mk18 thread did that, prob a little over kill I suppose.

Just wanted to pipe in and say thanks yet again Tony for saving me from making what might have been a decision I'd regret.  Sometimes it really is too good to be true.

I am going to need to keep track of the steak dinners I owe you. :)

Its been a while since I posted... after months of working with a gentleman locally, I decided to move on.  The seller lead me to believe for months that the m16 was in good standing to make a smooth transaction.  However paperwork is not in good order to proceed.

After searching for about 2 yrs I finally found the one I wanted.  Spent more than I had planned but Im happy with what I ended up.  Its an a1 in factory carbine configuration, which matches the one and only original form 3.  It has been owned by the same dealer since 1977.  From the pics and information I have its in mint condition and fired under 100 rounds.  Form 3 shows it came directly from Colt.  Purchased it for $24k.  Paperwork to my dealer should be starting in a matter of days.

Now I just have to decide if I want to shoot this thing lol.

What do you guys think?

Cant see the pictures.

But 24k for a Colt M16A1 is the going rate these days, you certainly didn't over pay.

Tony...  thanks!

I was actually thinking about just that if I should do those things you mentioned?  Where is a good source for colt parts?  What manufacturer buffer and spring/color should I be looking at as well?

I was looking at ordering from specialized armament... they have a full auto lpk that includes the fcg already.  Do you know if all the parts in that kit are all colt parts, also would you recommend replacing the mag release as well?  Thanks!

Tony, thank you very much!  You have given me so much information and more things to buy lol.  No really thank you.  As you recommended, I dont want to touch the factory staking on the receiver extension.  I will just stick to the original buffer tube and use a non vltor a5 system.  Lot's of advice and tips, they are very much appreciated.  I am trying to gather as much info as I can to reduce unnecessary wear on the lower receiver.

As much as I want to spend on Geissele SSF, I am going to pass at this time.  I have decided to get the FCG set and mag release assembly from SAW.  Now I just have to figure out what buffer weights I need to get.

Thanks again!
