I found out about the LAW Tactical® AR Folding Stock Adapter on the interwebs and had to have one.  I went to their website and found they were in the middle of changing over production from GEN 2 to GEN 3… and it would be several months before I was able to get one.  Since M16’s are the LEGOs of the NFA world, I had to add it to the toy box of “extras” I have gathered up in the last 12 years.  It is a work of art, IMO.  Go to www.lawtactical.com for a video that explains it better than I can.

So now that I have made up a PDW with a 6” Sun Devil Billet upper, MOE FDE livery, C-More Railway, and the LAW Tactical Folder Adapter (for a 17” -OAL folded- PDW)… what to carry it in?!  I could find an Assault Systems type tactical case to keep it in, but that would be too easy.  I wanted discreet.  I looked at brief cases, tennis racket cases (actually too long), music instrument cases (mostly too expensive)… and tool boxes.  Most tool boxes are made for expensive tool lines (i.e. SnapOn) and are not only expensive but even more prone to theft.  That was until I went to HD!

For the princely sum of $8.95 (not including tax) the 19” Homer Box was PERFECT for the job.

Here is my proof:

The LAW Tactical GEN 3 “Hinge”:

The PDW: (5.56… but other calibers optional)

And the Discreet HD Case:

Nice!!! That's the smallest M16 I've seen.

Neat looking but I'm assuming you me to fully extend it to fire the rifle, seems like that would be a hassle if you were in a hurry

Wow, this works on DI guns.  Coooll!

That's a nice rifle.  I like the idea of a folding stock on an AR, I wish they were a little cheaper.

Here's my submission for a case that does not scream gun.

I'd be concerned about the reliability of the operation of the LAW Tactical® AR Folding Stock Adapter system.  Short barrels and short buffers are often tough to "tune".

In any case, best of luck and enjoy!

I use a violin case.
Never been done before and you read it here first.

100% reliable using a regular carbine tube/buffer.  The 6" upper was built, timed and made for FA.  The bolt carrier has an extension that spans the thickness that the "hinge" adds.  The deployment is instant.  Watch the video on the LAW link.  It shows the use of this folder in multiple scenarios. The hinge is tool steel and precision made, bank vault lock up.

LAW Tactical “Hinge” open (BCG extension shown at bottom):

“Hinge” closed (Adds 1.3125” to OAL):

Super cool.  I want to do a 9mm pistol with a LAW folder next year.  Is the receiver extension piece they provide as easy as it looks to swap around to other upper combos?  Can you fire once folded or is that still discouraged?

Um, wow.
I haven't seen anything in two years for my ARs that interested me. That sure does....

Edit; group buy

In one of their videos they fire one shot (suppressed) folded.  Then they close it up, manually eject the empty and let the bcg load another round out of the mag.  Rock & roll.

That is a neat setup, but I have had more Dewalt tools stolen from me than I have guns.

Nice rig. I took a similar route with a .22 pocket rifle...

Exactly.

This is the discreet case challenge, something that does not scream gun, but also does not scream steal me.

Haven't seen these up close...

What is retaining the bolt carrier in the upper and the buffer/spring in the stock when folded? How secure are they when banging about?

I have visions of the buffer jumping free under all that spring pressure.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion or visions of disaster:

BCG + Extension w/ O rings

BCG w/extension installed (note: extension is inserted AFTER BCG is installed in upper rec.)

Retainer for BCG/Extension.  Latch button is sticking out on right side, when pushed in releases the extension for removal to clean weapon)

All parts installed, ready to close to shoot.

PDW w/KittyKat 7.5” upper

Good catch, S1ug… I have had a problem with this ever since I studied product photography under the creator of this now (in)famous catalog image:

I did however, fix the BUIS.
