Mine runs everything with a PSA H2. It also runs fine with standard weight carbine buffer

I don't have a 10.5, I have a 12.5 and I use an MGI. I don't even know if they still make them.

I use an H2 buffer for all my gas operated uppers from 7.5, 10.5, 11.5, 12.5, 14.5 to 16...same thing the military uses for their M4's. Proven and relatively inexpensive.

I have a H2, I run a 10.5" and a 14.5" in 5.56, and a 16" in 7.62x39.

What about gas port size guys? Have you drilled out your 10.5 barrel's gas port?

We tested them with the same ammo (LC M855), BCG and lower (lower had H2 buffer installed, standard power (white) Sprinco spring. Uppers were dry and not lubed for the testing since varying amounts of lube can skew the test results. All 3 ended up locking the bolt back on an empty mag consistently at 3 different port sizes: The top one was .076" The middle one was .063" The bottom one was .070" You can also read the NSWC MK18 testing, page 4 where they settled on .070 for the 10.3" MK18 for their cut down Colt barrels. http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2003smallarms/john.ppt  Most commercial barrel mfgr's overgas their barrels, especially the 10.5's. BTW, we port our match grade 10.5" barrels at .070" |

I have an old AAC buffer on my 11.5" that I've never had any problems with. Wished I would have bought 2.

I've tried the two-part mechanical 9mm buffer and a carbine buffer filled with tungsten powder. Both were just fine.
BTW, tungsten powder can be had rather cheaply from internet vendors. Golfers use it to weigh down club heads for a "dead blow" effect, same as an AR buffer. Take a regular buffer, take the end piece off, dump the steel chunks and rubber washers out, fill with tungsten powder to where the inside end of the end piece goes, replace end piece. DIY is much cheaper than buying a pre-made one. |
