Just bought a Olympic Arms M16 that was modified by Frankford Arsenal to be Full Auto. From my Google searches it appears Frankford Arsenal is no longer in business. Would Olympic Arms have any record of the rifle? anyone know of a good source of info about these rifles?

I understand part of the reason the Non-Colt RR are cheaper is they dont have much collectable value but was just curious if there is anything out there on them.

Thanks!

You can request information about your RR from the ATF via freedom of information act, however I heard that ATF doesn't process these requests anymore since you know.. those assholes are above the law in their opinion. Look here: https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=23&t=363832

Olympic Arms had a loss of their records due to a fire back in 2000.

It is possible that they may be able to locate records on your rifle, but I would be very surprised. Let us know how it turns out.

FWIW, by law, an FOIA request may only be done by the registered owner. So they will bounce the FOIA if they receive it before the Form 4 is approved.

Nope - ask the seller to submit the FOIA for you.

Depending on who you're buying it from ... you could always ask them if they would mind sending in the FOIA request if you write it for them, and then forwarding the results to you. The request doesn't cost anything.

I sent in a request on my M16

Got a letter saying they had received the request.

Nothing since, it's been more than a year I guess

Olympic's "What Does My Serial Number Mean" page may be of interest if you haven't seen it yet:

Couldn't find my serial number on the list, starts with prefix FA and then a number. But looks like they started production in 79' so it had to be made between the. And 86' I guess

Colt would be happy to tell you when the semi was sold. Well, maybe they would. They might not give that info out. They have nothing to do with the MG status of the weapon.
