THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Frank at ATFMACHINEGUNS.com is making a killing on selling M16s on the site Its the best place to sell and one of the worst places to buy. He has got a Colt conversion SP1(A2) right now that may reach $15000 or more. My eye is on his Steel RDIAS that is on there right now. Im NOT buying, Im just looking to see what he gets. If I ever SELL, I will sell on Gunbroker. |

Bill O Reilly says that the best place to get a machine gun is at a gun show.

Frank's M16 auctions netted $13k on 8/2 for an Oly/PAWS that had been drilled for 9mm blocks (!) and $14,695 on 7/22 for a Frankford Arsenal ... and he currently has three factory Colts underway. It'll be interesting to see what they go for.

Every day I have someone new who walks in the shop and finds out for the first time MG's are legal. I'm not kidding. Its a larger local shop, 300-400 customers a day, but still. Every day. Think about it. Not everyone is a buyer. But even at once a month, someone that finds out MG's are legal will end up buying one? I'd say that is a fair number. Even at one every two months, that is 6 new MG buyers added to the pool of people looking to buy an already limited supply. |

It'll never stop until the prices get so high that the pool of buyers starts shrinking, then it will level off. Right now, the pool of buyers is expanding in spite of the fact that prices are skyrocketing. Once people get over the initial sticker shock, they seem more than willing to pony up the $$$ for FA guns, because they know that today's inflated prices are just a precursor to tomorrow's even more inflated prices. I don't notice that gunbroker is so special in terms of pricing. If you want an M16 or an UZI, the only one that you'll be able to buy is the one priced so high that none of the other sharks in the berzerk feeding frenzy wants it. Or, you can luck out an pounce on a underpriced gun that shows up on subguns or sturm. The thing about gunbroker is that it's mostly live bidding, that adjusts the price on any "underpriced" guns that find their way to market. |

Frank just sold an FNC with a beta mag, that its, no other extra for $10k...
Sturm had one or two listed for $7100 without burst kit and it didnt seem to have any takers last week. Maybe the ad never got updated. $7100 seems a bit below market. But $10k is smoking something to be sure. As far as when it stops? Well from watching many different collectible/hobby markets rise and fall, I think it happens when prices get so high, there are no new entrants into the hobby. Without new buyers, it gets stale and falls out of favor. After all how much fun is it to follow a hobby when you can't afford anything worth talking about. However, NFA items might be a bit different because title I guns are the gateway drug to the hobby. Its not like comic books or baseball cards where there is no highly related hobby. You are either into baseball cards or you're not. I think for NFA stuff, it just gets to the point where the guns are too valuable to risk damage when shooting. Then its just a bunch of rich guys showing them off to each other in their studies. At that point they may still go up, but not much more than inflation. There are much more politically correct and easily displayed signs of wealth to get into, like exotic cars and trophy wives. Also political considerations too. How much do you want tied up in something that can be banned or made near worthless via a high capacity magazine ban. The last state without a high capacity magazine ban is where all the machine guns will end up, I would bet on Idaho or Alaska. |
