I wouldn't say they are out of control. People have always fished. Some times they get bites. Some times they don't. Shit, I had no hope of getting any where near what I listed mine for, and yet it sold. In the first listing of it. Guess I should have asked a bit more for it.

You guys that climbed into the lifeboats in 1995 don't quite grasp how icy the water is these days.

If you are just starting out, building a NFA collection, and you see a M16 or UZI for sale within $1000 of current market value, you don't hesitate, you just instantly buy it.

If you don't do that, what happens is that you spend months browsing the boards looking for a "good deal", and the inflated price you refused to pay 2 months ago is now the bargain price.

Because M16s and UZIs are instant sellers.

M11/9s are also just starting to go into "instant sell" mode. I hesitate to lump them into the same group as M16s and UZIs, but the allergens for a feeding frenzy are there already.

Life boats in 1995????

I was 11 years old in 1995. I didn't buy my first full auto until 2006.

Well, 2006 was definitely into the present SR71 level price situation.

I love and hate being young at the same time. Couldn't join the NFA world until December of 2006 :(

Well,I was 21 in 1972 ... but already had OP's NFA to play with, and only got around to buying my own in 1994. And as I've noted before, I passed on so many cheap-from-today's-view MGs that I have nightmares about it. Why didn't I buy that Maremont M60 for $3,500?????

But even back then, $2k for a Colt M16A1 was a lot of cash when I drove a $5k car and lived in a nice 3br/2ba $85k house near the beach in Fort Lauderdale.

So now I've got lots of great memories, but may need to sell my MGs to pay for an organ transplant. It is what it is. Sigh.

Enjoy your youth. You only get one of those.
This is Tony K, and I approved this message.

Yeah. It was well on the way up. Still after the price hike from the shrike being announced, and still not to the housing bubble burst. It was high, but I still haven't lost money on any of the full autos I've bought. And I haven't owned any of my full autos for more then two years, and I've made at least 25% return on them. I've owned 17 full autos so far. But you have to be online all the time, and know what you are doing. But I guess that goes with most investments. I just seem to think these investments are more fun then stocks.

I started watching it around 2000. My mother actually bought me my first MG when I was 15. It was a MAC, and was $500 NIB. Too bad the local sheriff at the time wouldn't sign off on forms, so we weren't able to get it.

If only I was able to start collecting back then. I'd have so many cool toys right now.

2000... that's when I received my first MGs.At the time my wife said "you don't need a machine gun"... good thing I ignored her and went ahead anyway... turns out they were the best buys I ever made. If I had waited, I would have 2 MGs instead of 5.
My collection: Vector UZI ($2750), Maremont M60 ($16k), Colt M16a1 carbine ($6,500), Fleming sear in MP5SD ($8,500), and more recently an AK ($13k) which has since been reworked into a Tula Krink. Somewhere in there I got a DLO 1919 ($10k), which I sold after a couple of years for $14k, which went towards the AK. This is a wonderful hobby!
