A few years ago I bought a Vickers and I recently came across another one at a reasonable price. Since I have spare parts to keep a Vickers running I added it to the safe. The big surprise was that the first and second guns are sequential serial numbers. Pretty cool luck, eh? I think they're happy to be back together again. The guns came out of completely different parts of the country from different sellers and are Wilson sideplate guns.

Oh. I was expecting a thin one and a fat one.
ETA: That's crazy. Plus the cooling shroud is different yet they're sequential? |

Since they're side plate guns they were built from parts kits. The finned shroud is a Brit gun originally made in 1918. I haven't had time yet to pull out the vickers book to see when and where the straight shroud gun was made
The only thing that's sequential is the side plates. That's definitely not as cool as having true sequential from the factory. |

It is my understanding that another type of side plate (MG08, for example) could be adapted to fit a Vickers, but I've not heard of that either. Most likely that kit would live on as spare parts, a post-sample or a semi. |

We had a machine gun display at a gun show the other weekend. My buddy brought his Vickers also.
From left to right: 54R, 303, and 8mm. Here's a side view which includes the Bren. The Bren has become my clear favorite LMG.
