Thinking about painting a Vector SMG.  I love the semi black gloss finish from US Anodizing.
Would that decrease the value since it would not be the original Vector finish?

I don't see a huge issue painting a Vector Uzi.   Vector isn't really the original manufacturer (Group Industries is) and if you get down to brass tacks about it "Vectors" are essentially clone & parts kit guns.  (albeit very functional ones)

Original finish in the machinegun world is usually reserved for original manufacture held in high esteem like Colt Thompsons and M16s, Winchester BARs, etc.

Nobody really cares if an HK94 to MP5 conversion or a Sendra M16 has been refinished.

Now if you had one of the few original IMI transferable Uzi's on your hands I would say definitely don't refinish it.

The only wrinkle I could see if that folks may question why you painted it and what defect you may be trying to hide.  Doesn't really seem to be an issue with other guns in the same class as a Vector, so I would say its of minimal risk

Conversion rifles have not collectable value so there is not harm painting them.

The value is the piece of paper with the stamp.

Paint the gun do not paint the paper!

I was thinking that too, since they are not conversions, thought it may take away the value.
It has a great finish but I love the semi gloss black look.
Just wondered if it would be worth less.
I think a non converted real IMI SMG UZI is black like the semi UZI??  but I think the older IMI ones are a greenish gray paint.  think they were always painted??

Factory IMI SMGs were parkerized up until probably the early 80s.  I have had several, Action Arms, LES, Interarm..., factory IMI pre-sample full-size UZIs and they were all parkerized.  A friend just bought a later production Action Arms imported pre-sample full-size UZI and it is black.  All of the pre-sample IMI minis I have ever seen were black but I think that is because they were all later production guns.  So yes, some factory IMI SMGs were black but most were parkerized.

IIRC, all IMI Uzi SMGs were parkerized -- but depending on the end user and the year of production, some were also painted gloss black on top of the parkerizing.

My pre-sample full size has the same gloss black finish as my semi Model A.  Both were Action Arms imports.

A SOT friend of mine has an original Izzy transferrable that was originally parkerized, though it looks more like an in-the-white battlefield pickup now that he's been using it as a rental gun for over 20 years.

That's what I was saying, factory IMI guns were originally parkerized but later painted.  I would imagine the SMGs started coming into the country painted black over the parkerizing about the time Action Arms started importing the semis since that's how the semis were finished.  You can see that any black IMI is parkerized on the inside since they just sprayed the outside.

using a machine gun is pretty brutal

it's hard use no matter how gentle you are

I don't think I would go with paint.  I think it would get worn out eventually and then look horrible.

Parkerizing and bluing look nicer with wear than paint does.

My IMI conversion was parkerized when i got it. I had richard at BWE go through it and he reparkerized the entire gun. I like the look. I never liked the painted guns.

Cerakote in Sig Dark Grey looks remarkably like parkerizing.  That may be an option for you as well.

Option #2: Robar NP3 (teflon/nickel)

SMG cleans up real easy, and very little lube required.

How does that finish wear? What does the inside of the receiver look like where the bolt rides on the receiver and inside the top cover?

It is hard as nickel, where there is internal contact the finish goes from satin to mirror polish.  The exposed barrel end is an example.  I actually hand polished it for contrast to the exterior of the receiver.

The Mini was not my first NP3 firearm.
HK93 w/KDF brake – 1992 – varmint rig

M.A.R.S. Pistol – late 80’s

OA93 – dual cal. Serial #2 – SHOT Show display gun*

*purported to be THE gun that started the road to the Chinese 7.62x39 ammo ban

Also, I live only 12 miles from Robar.

That is pure gun porn -  stunning combo of finish contrasted with the grip and rails.   I just pulled my mini out of the safe, and in comparison  it  looks so old and drab. Time to consider an "upgrade" to my mini
