Anyone on the forum build their own? If so do you have any pictures or suggestions?

I'm not going to buy the Serbu version, but I'm going to build my own. I really don't feel like waiting on a Form 4 for 9 months when I can get a efile Form 1 back in 30 days or less. Plus I can cut down barrels, the mag tube and weld the parts I need back together.

With all builds, you run into issues.I was curious on what issues people who've built their own has run into. I'm going to use a Remington 870 for the build. I'm not going to start until the ATF sends me back an approved Form 1.

I have.  It looks like every other super shorty.  I prefer Mossberg 500s, because the magazine tube is threaded, not silver soldered, and it's much easier to swap the front end.

I guessed at the mag tube size, shortened the mag tube, then de-soldered the barrel mounting lug, re-contoured it to fit the barrel at the new location, then silver soldered the lug in the new location.  Then you have to shorten the pump...

It's not rocket surgery.

I may just buy a mossberg 500 or Mav 88

Found a source for the front grip assembly, I can cut down the barrel and mag tube.
I could move the barrel mount. The mag tube on the 870 was getting to me.

I built one a few years ago. I used an old police trade in 870 Wingmaster. I put the receiver in a four jaw chuck on a lathe and ran the mag tube in a steady rest to cut it off and rethread.

That is a sweet little and undeniable argument applicable to a wide variety of disagreements.

Warn me if I am arguing with it.

+1 That's a beastly gauge.

The best scene would be if everyone else just pulls a pistol, and they all wish you had pulled just a pistol too!

Form 1 Winchester Defender~

12 gauge
10 1/2" Barrel , back bored , Winchoke choke tubes & Tritium front sight.
Folding stock for accurate fire
Black Moly Resin finish.

Its was a pretty straight forward build. Getting the mag tube out gave me a little grief but that was about it.

With a rifled barrel would these be a normal firearm (pistol) ?

[#12]
No.

A pistol with a Caliber bigger than .50 is a destructive device.

Cool guns there,  got me wondering about form 1 a shotgun myself vs buying a SHF KEG, does anybody know if the KEG or the Serbu mossberg or remington is able to be disassembled or is the mag tube welded on both?

The barrels come off.

Do you mean where the mag tubes attach to the receiver? Mossbergs are threaded and Remingtons come high-temp soldered from the factory (and not threaded). I don't know if they stick with that method, but probably.

Sorry I meant are the magazine caps welded with the front end assembly or can they be unscrewed to take the barrel off?, I guess you can then. I am in the process of deciding to order a KEG 12 or serbu shorty next week. Already have a factory 870 SBS 14inch but want something shorter and less practical. :)

Cool, Im wanting to order the gun next week and at this point I think I'm leaning toward the KEG 12 in the 870 model.
