well I bit the bullet and purchased a railed model LMT M203.  I will Form 1 it when I get it in hand and go from there.

I have been doing a bit of research and was trying to see my options on having it as a standalone model.   I see LMT has a product and I see KAC has a product (though I only see the barrel attached model).

What else is out there?  Can other models that have a pictinanny rail be utilized?  I am thinking the stock potion of the FN EGLM might could be used?

Thoughts?

I have one I bought from Israel, that works very nice. It is also well priced. Not cheap.

It may take a week or two to arrive, but fit and finish are nice. It is polymer, but will hold up to a lot of abuse. I plan on doing a review when the F1 stamp arrives. GROG

I think I am leaning with the LMT standalone set up BUT I do not like their stock system for it.  I like the simple stock on the HK M320 and the KAC 203 stock system.

If I decide to purchase the grip section, who do you think can help with the mods on it?    Thoughts?

I am digging that one BUT I would like to add a light stock.  I know LMT has designed a stock for it but it doesn't appear to be on the open market at the moment and I do not like the way it looks really.....

I never broke down and bought one of the M203 rail versions made by LMT, but a friend who is a trainer for Federal Law Enforcement did.  He has his with a short 9 inch barrel and since he wanted to add the Eotech EGL grenade launcher sight (because one was available from work), he was frustrated that none of the stand a lone stocks had side rails.  He had stand a lone made up by a Federal Armorer with access to CNC and rapid prototype technology using a handy H&K 416D handguard and a old Colt CAR15 stock and side folding buffer tube. but he did not like the bulk or expense.

He told me he ended up buying a airsoft version of the stock for the EGLM for the FN SCAR rifle for $80 online and with some minor mods, he fitted his registered LMT M203 to that with good results.  He is currently trying to have a Ohio arms engineer reverse engineer a true stand a lone that fits the LMT rail without the possibility of breaking loose.  I have not fired it, but he said the reverse engineering by the Hong King/Japanese airsoft manufacturer was so close that a real FN SCAR 40mm fit on the rail and worked fine.  He has had not problem with over 50 rounds of TP rounds.

You can also clone the stock that was cobbled by the folks shown on this video on Youtube.

I am not affiliated with anyone on that video.

Frank, that is a great standalone. I like the idea. It looks great.  Thanks for posting that video.

No worries.  I had someone on the hook to build an adapter for the LMT pisol grip kit that would mount the IWI Galil ACE stock to the LMT railed M203 and standard M203 stand a lone to get a lighter stock that would fold small enough to fit in a Diplomatic Agent's computer case or fit on their plate carrier with a shorter 9 inch barrel and fold to the right side and not block the barrel release or hit any left side mounted lasers or sights.

Everything was lined up for machine time to crank out a few dozen but my source for the IWI Galil ACE stocks dried up.  I wanted to go with the Israeli adapter like Grog shows/bought, but wanted to stay away from polymer and have the option of going to a strictly pistol grip style like LMT designed into their stand a lone, since I can add a AR15 pistol grip of my choice.

Just FYI, my idea actually came from a SOCOM armorer, who designed a folding stock for the M79 for use with Navy and Army Special Ops troops.  I just wanted it set up for a M203 since that is what I have and I couldnt talk R/M Manufacturing down in Miami to cut loose some of their M203A1 stand a lone stock kits and did not want to pay as much as they probably wanted either.

Good luck on those projects!.

If you ever have an opportunity I'd really be interested in seeing photos of a side folder set-up, i'd pay to have something like that made, the pistol above is a nice compact set-up but I'm torn between that and keeping it on my rifle.

I would honestly like to find a nice kydex holster/scabbard set-up that i've seen for the m320s, so it could be a 3-4" drop belt holster (opposed to a drop-leg) with a plug the barrel sits over and a kydex "pinch" to keep it secure. It would be nice to wear on a battle belt along with a pistol instead of lugging around a rifle.  A rifle gets heavy once you start adding optics or lights of any sort, and isn't as discrete or truck friendly. Also looks pretty ridiculous with optics for both the 40mm and the 5.56.

I will tell you where I am at this stage...

I purchased a airsoft FN EGML stock:   http://starairsoft.sev76.001at.com/large/EGLM_SAL_T_5.jpg   - just the stock platform, not the launcher or sight.

I should get this in the next few days.  My plan is to see how the railed LMT M203 mounts to it as is.  My secondary plan is remove the plastic grip section in the hopes that the rail goes all the way back.

My next inquiry will be to see how the launcher will mate up with a ARMS AR qd grip:  http://www.impactguns.com/data/default/images/catalog/535/arms_23.jpg

From there we will see if the rail itself can be remade into a stronger metal.

Thoughts?

Worth a try, Almost looks like something you could try with an AR rail, you would just have to make a mechanism for a stock. To me it looks easy, make something similar to a mag realize, a sliding pin with a spring and a notch of a different diameter to slide the stock have the stock inside the rail with a slit down the middle and every few inches countersink a squared hole for the bolt to slip into and lock up. Thats a bit complicated, it could probably done done similarly with a sliding bolt, and just cut notches in the bottom of a rectangular metal rod to catch a mechanical bolt similar to the set-up of a NEA stock.

I went a head and pulled the trigger on purchasing a LMT railed M203 receiver from a dealer.  Really liked the machining and ability to mount it onto a Daniel Defense RIS2 railed Mk 18 shorty AR or even a H&K MR556 or MR762 if I get enough funds.  Rail seems more versatile for the rifles I want to have and the pistol grip stand a lone set seems to be even better.

I plan on cutting some Kydex and making my own MOLLE holster for a stand a lone.  I think it would be cool if I can find a sight that I like.  Just waiting on the Form1 is a pain.

From checking other posts and online I found some ideas.

Here are some pictures I nabbed.

Here is the R&M Manufacturing stand a lone patent picture.  Seems like a nice set up and if the Isreali unit allowed you to change pistol grips I would be all over it, even though it doesnt mount a railed M203

This is a picture from a Auction for a Pennsylvania dealer who had a bunch of old Colt stuff.  This is a incomplete M203 pistol grip that used a rod under the issue handguards, but it would also look cool with a free floating rail like the URX or Daniel Defense RIS.  Maybe a base for a 1913 rail system, and you could use one of the side folder adapters - but make it fold to the right side like the R/M unit

Some more stuff.  Sorry for the 2nd post, but I'm new here.

This was off a Navy SEAL board, and it shows what was described above by Frank as a Modified M79 with side folding stock.  Looks like a winner to me.

Of all places, this is Vietnamese troops with a laquered stock M79 with red dot sight.  I like it and even like the stocks - makes me feel like Christmas with the red and green!

Here is the LMT rail stock unit. I like this one in the dark earth color, but it doesnt seem to be ready for production or they are selling them for a military contract.

Keep it coming and if anyone has the MAKO M203 ISreali stock, put up a review.  I'm eager to find out if the stock is worth it.

If you can find one, Spikes Tactical used to make the Kaos Stock for railed M203 launchers.

well I usually don't give up easy but I just don't have the tools and machining knowhow to go from here.....Some very good ideas are being floated.

I tried the various grips that I had...no go.  Needs someone with a workshop and some tinkering skill.

If there is a guy on this topic that has a good feedback and is well known and wants to run with my basic concept idea, I would gladly send what I have to them and try to come up with something (I'm sure we can work something out).  Shoot me a PM/Email and lets talk.
