This thing's fun :) Some pipe and ingenuity goes a long way.

Basically, it shoots dummy rounds made from pvc pipe and a golfball.  It is fired by inserting a homemade ematch into a homemade booster which propels the dummy round.  I'm working on rockets for it, but cant actually launch any since its too dry where I live.  So for now, its a noise/flash maker.  Anyone can make something like this with metal pipe and an estes launch controller.  I've just taken the idea a bit further :)

How far does your dummy golf ball round fly?

They'll go about 175 yards max.  Although I'm working on some new designs so that they'll go further.  I expect the rockets will go at least 400-500 yards if I can get them to fly straight or work in general.

A real RPG-2 isn't a rocket.

Wear safety glasses.  There is a reason it's not a rocket.

Well, this is supposed to be a hybrid.  RPG-2 and RPG-7.  I just say RPG-2 because it doesn't look much like an RPG-7.  And I do!  I don't like risking my eyesight.

Nice,  buddy of mine is a Navy Gunner's mate.  He had been testing the new Airtronic US Made RPG7 launcher - bad ass by the way.  He experimented in his garage and built a PVC RPG launcher that launched the little Nerf like footballs that kids play with.  To get stabilty, he dipped them in a wax like substance and coated them with paint.  Thinking they were harmless, he had a coworker go long in a parade field at a Navy base in Va Beach......capped off the round and the Nerf went sailing true and steady.  It hit his bud in the noggin and left a wet the size of a golf ball.......................seems the wax was a little too rigid..........his bud walked around with a red welt covered with chalk and paint.  It was pretty fun to cap off, not RPG training round fun, but fun.

Nice concept.

I've seen a few pictures of those Airtronic launchers, theyre so sweet!  I would love to be able to be up close to one someday :)  And that sounds like a blast.  It sounds like some kind of compressed air cannon.  I could see making something like that in the future.  And thanks :)

These two pictures show what I am trying to accomplish.

I will use 4 or 5 fins, made from plastic, and hot glue them onto the rocket body.  I might have to use some kind of epoxy if the hot glue melts too much.  I ordered 1/32" sheet plastic used in vacuum forming, and I feel that it will work well for this use.  Here are some close up pics of my replica rocket with the fins i designed.   And a pic of my general use dummy round with fins.  They are curved on the bottom so they'll slide into the pipe easier and not catch.

Here's a model of a potential dummy grenade.

Details?  You are shooting a model rocket out of it or...?  Is it electrically fired?

My pickup launcher is basically the same thing as my RPG-2 replica.  It is just built in a stand so it can sit in the bed of the pickup.  In the picture, it is shooting a blank.  The blank is a really big firecracker that explodes out both ends.  I ignite it with ematches when I shoot it from the pickup.  The blank can propel the dummy grenades.  I don't use any kind of model rockets.  Here's a video.

Since that's how the real RPG2 operates, that might be a good way to make your replica.

Do your homework and make sure you don't build a DD without a permission slip.

Percussion cap and black powder makes it a Non Gun Non DD as long as the warhead is inert.

I love the replica grenade.

Well it certainly doesn't have a warhead!  And thanks :)
