Not easy to do, but if you carefully follow the laws, have the money, and are patient & persistent, there are legal ways to own DDs; here are a few folks who have done it the right way:

There are others out there. If you don't feel like going the NFA route, I believe muzzle-loading black powder cannons are still allowed under the same rules as any other BP gun.
