Breech itself is $4k, or you can buy the complete guns from him for 6500 I believe.
I wanted to do something different, more low profile. |

Be mindful of ricochets when shooting steel. One of the shooters got beyond lucky- he had his Oakley shooting/ballistic glasses up on his head instead of covering his eyes. A 20mm hit some steel and ricocheted back, striking him square on the left (maybe right- don't recall) lens. It was bloody but he was fine after cleaning up. The lens shattered and we only found pieces if it later on. Mike |

It's like that video of the dude having his hearing protection knocked off his head from the 50cal coming back. The breech is massive and super cool. Few more months on the F1 and then I can mount the barrel. |

Bad ideas in retrospect- we should have been MUCH further away and the plates should have been gongs. Riker builds quality. Just treat it with the appropriate respect and you'll be good. Mike |

Mike I've got a propped up steel plate that is set about 15deg off just for that reason. Some steel swinging targets have sent shit back at us in the past once it gets pitted. |

I've been having the same idea as you lately . I'm wanting to make a wheeled carrage and have a co-ax .50 and 20mm single shot cannon on it . Instead of the breech that you pictured I'd go with something closer to this .
and have the shell holder built into it . Probably go with some kind of dampening device for the barrels too . Need to find a decent place for a barrel first . |

Still waiting for the F1 to come back.. Maybe next month?
I bought an M3 tripod to mount it on after seeing Serbu's 20mm test gun. |

Barrel is threaded, muzzle brake is threaded and bored out (started life as a 50BMG brake).
Here it is sitting on an M3 tripod for mock up. I'll be welding up a mount that fits the standard M2 pattern, with some sort of recoil absorbing mechanism idea stolen from Matt's 30mm. I'll be unbolting the front leg of the tripod and mounting some sort of axle w/metal shield.

Good Job!
Instead of having to design & fabricate a recoil mechanism, get one of these MAG 58 "soft mount" tripods. It already has has a spring loaded cradle. Don't let the fact that it is designed for a MG fool you, the tension can be increased by the addition of plastic buffers. Also, it can be adjusted from a sitting position all the way down to to a ground level. Their price is high. I haven't actively been looking, but I recall seeing these from $650-$800. http://www.cranetechnologiesinc.com/Mag58TripodSoftWith1919Adaptor.html ![]() |

So, since it's not shoulder fired, do you have to do paperwork to build one??? <edit> just read above: "YES" ...I've got a new-in-the-wrapper Vulcan bbl I bought from IMA years ago <edit> just checked their site: They are out of stock now, but were selling for $399 before they ran out! I think I gave $125 way back when... |

Way cool on both the 20mm and the 40mm! I still dream about getting something bigger.
It's great to see how mainstream the bigger bore stuff is becoming. |

I've considered making a single shot to fire Mk-19 ammo out of a short piece of barrel. Steel barrel that is... Could ba a cool project.
Nice on the 20mm project Bro. Keep the photos coming. GROG |

Got the barrel clamps and the pintle/T&E lugs done.
The 3.5" square tube that the clamps will be welded to. It will slip over a 3" tube inside that with the lugs welded to them. That will mount to the Tripod. Cutout in the bottom of the 3.5" tube will fit around the mounting lugs. They will be connected by a nitrogen pressurized shock that works laying down. Any suggestions for a scope mount?

In the pictures above, you can see a spare front tripod leg, as well as some ugly spare car wheels. Those will be combined with some spindle/hubs into a front axle for my tripod.
ETA: The ugly yellow green military color was free with the wheels. |
