Thinking of rattle canning one of my AR's and my suppressor to match. Lookig for info to get it that burnt off look.

How do I go about this?

Cerakote C-Series. Its designed for high temp applications such as barrels and suppressors. I painted the barrel and suppressor for my M16 with it, I have noticed some minor discoloration due to extended full auto fire but no peeling or bubbling.

FWIW I view a scratches, discolored paint and other imperfections as a badge of pride as it mean I actually use my firearm. I cant help but laugh when someone shows up to the range with a perfectly painted safe queen, I know they're the type who spend more time fondling their guns than they do shooting them.

Cool. I went to lowes today and just started fucking painting all my shit today like a fat person on cake.

Embarrassed and disappointed now. But I just couldn't help myself.

That we can work with. Is everything black under the tan? If so, a light application of fine sandpaper on the raised/sharp edges along with a healthy dose of mag dump and you'll be good to go. I'd expect a nice burnt brown color on the can as well as some bubbling or flaking of the tan paint. Hit the range this weekend and report back! At this point a lot of wear from use will make it better.

What is that, a single color?

Get some laundry netting and get some brown and green on that thing.

Buy a Surefire with a bad batch of cerakote

You should be able to see in this pic. It started to bubble and peel after 3, back to back 30 round mags. Mind you my range has a 1rnd per sec rule and it's not really like mag dumps.

You got the undercoat done.  Now you need to put laundry bag on it and do the next coat, in brown or green.  Then after that dries, do the last coat in the last color you haven't done yet.

Do the second two colors/coats extremely light.

The first coat in tan should have been done very light also.  If you lay it on too thick at any point it will be heard to wear through with use.

Don't beat your rifle up unnecessarily like some of the suggestions above. Sandpaper, gravel...... Simple use will get the wear you want.  Bring it to rifle matches, etc.  you need to heat it up more than simple plinking at the range will get it.

Oh one more thing, don't prep the rifle if you want the paint to peel right off. Leave the oils and everything on it when you paint.

Ran this thing hard. Had it glowing a few times.
I've never Cerakoted it, it's just got that beautiful "shot all to hell" grayish brown fade.

From the OP image of the AAC can they used norells moly resin from the factory.  I wouldn't recommend to pay to refinish with this though.  Molly resin sucks at handling heat, it turns to ash and flakes off easily, might as well light your money on fire.

Another vote for rattle can + run it hard.

Added some color, second rifle got the same paint scheme? Did you get the can hot enough to flake the paint on the end?

looks better, but your pattern still has defined lines. Id go back and add a light dusting of brown to the entire thing. rustoleum or krylon makes a good camo series. I really like their dark brown. Instead of sponges or laundy bag, try using some actual brush from your area for the pattern.

I did mine in base coat coyote alumahyde, and then green and brown using pine needles as my pattern.
