Once my stamps are approved, I plan to use my 11.5" for HD with a Dead Air Sandman S, I was thinking that I may have a problem with the can casting shadows, due to the light being benind it.

Is this a real issue, and if so, how do you guys remedy it?

I haven't completely settled on a handguard yet, but it will be either a KMR10 or a DDM4 10" rail.

Advice on that would also be appreciated.

You need a light with enough spill. I've not encountered a problem even with a TLR-1 at the 12 oclock

Tape a paper towel tube onto the muzzle of your HD gun and try it out at night. See if any shadows that are cast bother you and if so, try moving the light around.

It's going to happen.

Just get that light as far forward as possible.

This.

It's not really a big deal.

And as high on the rail as possible. If 12:00 doesn't work then 10:30 and 1:30 positions are next best if your rail has seven rows of mlock or keymod options.

It's a linear compensator, silly.

Install multiple lights at the 12,3,6,&9 rail locations.

Report back.

For sure. Folks ask this question about light mounting systems for shotguns all the time.. barrel shadow this or that.

Get over it. if the shadow bothers you that much, try not using a light at all... magic.. no shadow. enjoy.

That appears to be GD's general solution since so many people insist that they "sleep at night".

All my cans cast shadows but none of them interfere with sight picture or optics

Honestly, just learn to ignore it.  I have run lights at 12:00 and 3:00 and they both throw shadows.
