My Octane 9 is in and I'm looking to make a bulk purchase. My only purpose would be for range play and impressing my friends. Any suggestions?

Fiocchi 158 is the best factory ammo for shooting suppressed.
PPU 158 is a very close second. Haven't tried much else, but I can say to avoid the AE 124gr "Suppressor" ammo like the plague. |

For cheap shooting the 147 grain speerman is NICE. Especially the prices at SGammo. Im waiting for them to get some more in.
I may try some 158s if they are that much better like the poster above indicates |

PPU 158 sounds great. Noticeable difference side by side with Lawman 147gr.

Guess Ill order some. Any pressure issues in a MP5 gun with them? Ive never went above 147 with 9mm. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I load my own. I've been using the bullets that we cast at work. Usually 147s. I just started to play around with 158 gr bullets that I resized to .356 for 9mm. Was testing them this weekend. The 158s seemed quieter than the 147s. I'll need to play with them more and have others shoot them to see. They didn't chamber in my MP5 clone but I may need to adjust the OAL.

I caught Freedom Munitions 147 grain remanufactured on sale and got it for something like 18 cents a round. Haven't had any problems with shooting it yet.

I have used the flat nose Speer 147 in an mp5 but that particular one did not cycle it well at all. I have not used the 158 in a mp5 because I always read to not go above 147 (I dunno). The CZ scorpion cycles 158 great. You may have to lighten the buffer weight (mine is 12oz) to the 158 to run in a 9mm AR sbr build if you have one because mine will barely spit out the brass. The 158 runs great in a m&p9 pistol. |

To me this is what sounds best in order from best to worst.
PPU 158 Freedom Hush 147 All other 147s I have tried. The 158 has a little deeper tone maybe and I think that's why it sounds better to me. Wet they all sound pretty close but the 158 is the best dry. |

I mostly use 147 grain from Stand 1 Armory. It's convenient because they are very close to where I live. I use the regular 147 grain for pistols and the Chubbies (-P) for my MP5 clones. The Chubbies are cleaner and less gassy but don't function very well with suppressed pistols, but they work great in sub guns. I have also tried Freedom's Hush ammo and it is a little quieter but not worth the price for general use.

I would have to dig up my old chrony data but the Fiocchi was significantly slower than the old IMI blue tip I tested. I use Speer 147's and like them a lot.
Was told not to use 158's because of premature ejector/extractor wear. Anyone else hear this? |

I've shot a bunch of the Freedom Munitions 147 grain reloads. All went bang and are accurate enough for me!

Must have been this. I think Ill just stick with the 147s. Theyre pretty damn quiet as is depending on environment around you. Open fields I swear you basically only hear the action working about 10 feet away with a wet can and my K clone. |

The only other 147 I tested was the Winchester "Train & Defend" 147s and yeah not even close. I know NFA Review did a video on them a while back and if I recall he was (prior to that review) a huge fan of Lawman 147s. His review swayed me to Hush :) NFA Review Channel |

I use whatever is cheapest for plinking. For quieter I've tried a few brands of 147gr 9mm and been pretty happy with the results. My use is on a 9mm AR SBR with a YHM Cobra can.

147 grain reloads, if I can't find them for a price I like I make 124 grain subsonic reloads.

Tried Browning 147gr bpt, quieter than my 125gr reloads but way louder than my 150gr reloads using 700x. Really quiet except for the ring of the steel.... Shooting paper is quiet.

Fiocchi 158 are definitely quieter than the Lawman 147 in a Glock 19 with Octane 9.
