I'm in the market for a 556 suppressor. I already have a sdn-6.

Looking at either a Specwar (regular or K) or AAC M42000.

I do have a few mounts already for the sdn6 but that's not a deal breaker. Primary use will be 11.5 sbr and 18" spr.

Thoughts on what I should go with?

I have an SDN-6 as well that I use with my 10.5" SBR. I got sick of the weight and length and just ponied up for a Mini-4. The M4-200 seemed too similar in length and weight to the SDN-6 to justify. I wanted to stay with AAC so I could swap the two cans out whenever I want.

Is the Mini 4 safe for a shorter barrel? Their website mentions 14.5" but I can't find anything showing how short you can go.

The general consensus is yes. There are a lot of people running this can on 10.5 and 11.5" guns without any issues. Also, from AAC's own warranty statement: "Centerfire rifle caliber silencers are not warrantied for use on barrels less than 10” in length. 762-SDN-6 and SR7 silencer are warrantied on barrels as short as 7.5” when used with 300 AAC BLACKOUT."

So you should be GTG down to 10".

If you're dead set on AAC, I would hands down get the Mini-4 over the M4-2000 since you already have an SDN-6. The sound attenuation isn't that different between the Mini-4 and the M4-2000 - you have to shoot them side by side to tell the difference.

However, the AAC 51T mount is a pretty old design at this point, and there's much better mounting systems available. The Dead Air Sandman S, Griffin Armament Recce 7, and SilencerCo Specwar 5.56 K would all top my list before the AAC offerings.

I'm looking for a 5.56 suppressor as well. I too like the specwar, but am also looking at the Griffin M4SD as it seems to have pretty similar features around the same price point. The locking system is nice as it's compatible with A2 style devices and obviously Griffin's mounts... Decisions decisions

Check out the Griffin M4SDK. Thats what I would get for a 556 K can.

Specwar K can be had for a little under $500 when using Gamaliel's 15% discount.  Seems like a pretty sweet can for a 10.5"

I have a Specwar K, and it's fantastic on my 556 10.5" upper. I run it in full auto as well and it stands up to the abuse.

My M42000 is a nice can that has lived through substantial abuse and just asks for more. It was my first silencer and even though it doesn't see as much use it is still one robust can that I really liked.

The weak point in the design is the latch IMHO. I wore my first latch down and had to send it off to AAC after a few years. Seems the new latch is holding up much better though.

I now am primarily using a surefire which I do like, but it is noticeably louder than my AAC.

I personally never had any complaints about the AAC 51t mounting system, but the way the surefire mounts is pretty nice I have to admit after using both cans for awhile now
