Bought one from PracticalTrading in AZ. Wan an older, but still new, unit. Called Gemtech. Rep on the phone told me they have made ZERO revisions to construction of the MK-9K so whether its the oldest, or newest, they're built the same. Paid $615 for my MK-9K. Just an FYI.

That is true for the core but not the mounting.
Here are some pics of some of my MK9K 3 lug mounts:
These are pics I took back in 2005.
There are at least 4 different iterations of MK9K 3 lug mounts I know of.
What I label as 'NEW' is no longer made. I think that one had some stacking tolerance issues. I like the one labeled OLD the best. The back area is one solid chunk of aluminum.
The latest, is kind of like a combination of the OLD and NEW one where it looks like the OLD one but it threaded to the part that screws into the inner core.
All three of these MK9K 3 lug mounts fall under the patent by Greg Latka of Gemtech.

It is foolproof but it does have a slight amount of play. Which some people report having accuracy issues but mine have been fine.
Before using Greg's design, they were using the design by Tim Bixler of SCRC fame.

It is slower to remove / install and can be mounted incorrectly as many have launched cans downrange not checking to make sure the collar is actually going over the lugs.
