What do you guys think about this can? I want to get one for a m4a1 sopmod build.

I have one I run on an LWRC IC, works great, I plan on getting the new socom 2 in 7.62 when it's available!

Same, except she also gets time on my 16".

Lives on my 12.5".. nearby.. for HD.

Extremely happy with it.  Gets stuck on the muzzle brakes from time to time, haven't figured out exactly how to get it off once it gets cool.

ETA: Shitty picture of the SBR

It's an expensive can relative to peers, so understand the trade offs you are making here.  It won't be as quiet as others, but you can a reasonably compact can with a great mounting system, less blowback, limited POI shift, great customer support, etc.

Happy with mine and considering another with the sale mentioned in the 'deals' thread.

FireClean is your friend when it comes to muzzle devices and QD cans. Light coat on the muzzle device and on the inside of the can where it mates and you are shiny.

This. Recommendations are helpful, but know your priorities and do your research.

That having been said, I love my SOCOM 556RC so much I just bought a second one.

Slightly related, but wouldn't the SOCOM SB be a bit more versatile than the RC?

I only have 7.62 cans so I'm kinda ignorant when it comes to the 5.56 SOCOMs.

SB is designed for short barrels in case of bullet stabilization issues.

Great can.
If you want one I would go ahead and jump on this: https://www.armsunlimited.com/SureFire-Fast-Attach-Rifle-Sound-Suppressor-p/socom556-rc.htm

I gathered that, but is the SB trading other aspects of performance in exchange for working well with poorly stabilized bullets?  or does it do everything the RC does on top of working well with SBRs?
Link Posted: 7/1/2015 2:57:01 PM EDT
[#11]
There is always a trade off.  Part of the reason the SB is better with unstablized bullets is that it has a bigger bore.  This makes it louder.

How short is the barrel you want to use it on?  RCs work great 10.3" barrels.  I'd never go shorter with an AR platform.

Tempting... I've only ever used silencer shop direct for suppressors. Do I need to do anything beforehand? Or can I just order/checkout and find a Class 3 FFL locally afterwards?

I'm still undecided because isn't the improved SOCOM RC2 suppressor coming any day now?

There is a dealer locator on the Arms Unlimited site.  Look on the L/H side of the page where you add the suppressor to your cart.  You will probably want to contact any dealer you find there to make sure they'll do the transfer and how much they will charge.  If you have a favorite LGS, ask them, some have SOTs but don't stock suppressors/NFA and you might not know without asking.

The SOCOM RC2 is due soon.  I searched but was unable to find the thread where Garin from Surefire (Kudu22) describes the differences.  He indicated that it is an incremental upgrade, nothing earth-shaking, mainly for things other than sound reduction.  In my case, not nearly enough to be worth the likely $4-500 price difference, especially when I'm so happy with my RC1.

YMMV.

ETA:  Make that a $390 price difference, between this sale price, and the listed price for the SOCOM RC2 on the Silencer Shop website.

I could buy one of the Element 2s on sale for $330 at Capitol Armory for that difference, and I just might

The RC2's are much stronger because of the new welding techniques and the new end cap better hides first round flash.

The new end cap design is interesting, all the upgrades are appreciated but the RC's are not dainty little flowers.  I'd buy the RC with confidence right now if it's a steal of a deal.

Sent my paperwork off last month for a 556rc. I don't particularly like the new end cap design

I figure its a pretty solid can. I don't recall much bad press on them other than louder than other cans and sticks on mounts sometimes.

The real question here is what will Surefire do if you ask them to replace your baffle stack. Will they throw the original SOCOM stack back in or the SOCOM 2?

I ended up buying a RC, for $900. Dealer just across the river in Portland, OR. I kept bugging SilencerShop about them, and all I could get was "Surefire doesn't tell us when they're coming." So after waiting for 4-6mo I gave up.
