I just picked up a Beretta 21A (.22LR) and I'm going to send it off to Tornado Tech or someone to have an adapter threaded onto the muzzle. It was sort of an impulse buy but I always liked the idea of a tiny little .22LR pistol and a can. I'm going to see if I can find a set of Crimson Trace grips for it and it should make a fun little toy for plinking cans. So far I stopped off to the side of the road on the way home (this is AZ after all) and put 60 flawless rounds through it...other than the mag being a little tight and not quite locking in without a good tap before shooting. Any recommendations on who to make the adapter? I'd appreciate any pics of your setups if you have one with a can on it...

Gemtech does a great job, instead of an adapter the barrel is bored out & a threaded sleeve installed. Using this technique you have rifling all the way to the end of the barrel.

I bought my barrel from hi desert dog. Rather than relate my 7 paragraph horror story - don't get a high desert dog barrel.

As I work through my gun project list I'll eventually get around to doing my 21A right - with a Gemtech sleeved barrel.

ETA: Originally it was bought as a novelty item & for CCW suppressed. Often times when I take new young shooters out the GSG 1911's, Sig Mosquito, and P22's get left on the table while the 21A gets a good work out.
I wouldn't say I'm a gun nut... but I'd consider extreme enthusiast.

I've read enough about High Desert Dog to stay away from them. I'm looking at other options...if you don't mind me asking what does Gemtech charge for the bore-out/barrel sleve option? I may not have the opportunity to call them for a few days.

.380: No

.22 (21A): Yes. Cost is $150 plus return UPS 1-day air ($60-70) if the entire pistol is sent. If you R&R the barrel and send just the barrel, $140 plus $10 return UPS ground.

PHD is a knowledgeable gentleman and an all around good dude. If you have a hammer & correct punch you can get the barrel off pretty easy. Note it is a tapered pin.

As an after-thought - I have several different 22LR suppressors. I bought a Thompson Machine wasp specifically for the 21A. I've been quite happy with it - it is meant as a wet suppressor. I normally get 2-3 magazines of quiet before adding more wire pulling gel.

I'll have to read about it a bit more. I'm liking with work Accurate Ordnance does...looks great and will not require boring out the barrel...although I have no doubts Gemtech would do it correctly. The price difference isn't that much so we'll see.

I just like the idea of a little extra rifling.

If you go that direction I'd be interested in a fit/finish/range report.

I believe Gemtech would do a nice job but sometimes I like working with the small shops. In this instance, AO would get the nod from me. Mark K. at AO is top notch and a pleasure to work with. I'd email and see what kind of wait time you'd be looking at from each and go from there.

I sent mine to Gemtech.

Very happy. Rather than create a thread adapter, they install an extended barrel sleeve. So really, you're getting a new bore AND threading for that price.

Seems to be most reliable with Aguila SSS. The shorter case seems to extract and eject more reliably. No baffle strike issues (been through a brick or so of the SSS, several bricks of normal .22LR).

My local smith and good friend did mine and it has worked very well with all 3 of my .22 cans.

I bought one awhile back from a local pawn shop that had been the shop owner's suppressor host. He had had a local 'smith do the barrel by doing the same thing Gem-Tech does. That part worked great. Unfortunately, it wasn't too long after I bought it that the frame cracked at the barrel hinge. I tried getting hold of Beretta to see what I could do about getting it replaced, but didn't get a response from them until more than a year later. (Even then, the only response was a questionairre, asking how I would rate my experience with Beretta customer service. Suffice to say I doubt they liked my response.) I ended up disassembling the entire gun and selling the threaded barrel, mags, grips and assorted parts here on the EE.

FYI, I used a YHM Mite on it and the previous owner also used a pretty lightweight aluminum can. Apparently, the frequent opening with the added weight on the end of the barrel caused stress that resulted in a cracked frame, as far as I can tell.

meh... these are not the most durable guns so I personally avoid putting any more money into it. Unless you really want to be all special agent about it.

I got a hi desert dog barrel for mine and have had no problems. Installed fairly easily and threaded uo my HPLLC 3 lug just fine for my Checkmate. I think I'm gonna get a SS Sparrow for it eventually.

I likewise have a hi desert dog barrel... makes a fine host for my current .22 suppressor.

I bought my gun already threaded from X Caliber Firearms:

Beretta Bobcat 21a Silencer Ready

Suppessor used is a Huntertown Arms "B" micro suppressor.

Huntertown Arms "B"

It's 1.085" OD x 3.75" long and uses 3 "K" baffles. I shot it dry using CCI Subsonic and CCI CB Long. Overall I'm happy with it. Fun little toy that gets grins from anybody I show it to. Very 007.

I can thread barrels and do SBR engraving. Link for an album with my work:

I keep planning on buying one and having ADCO do the threading.
