Your still building it!
When I start a form 1 can its hard for me to leave it alone until its done and it never takes longer than a few days
with a complicated build.
Come on getter done

No love on the surefire mount?

I'm planning to order a Surefire MB556 in a couple of weeks. If no one gets back to you with dimensions by then I'll take the calipers to mine.

I've been able to grab some more time on the mill this week after it being unavailable for a while. While I've been waiting on the mill to free up for pretty much the last month, I did a little redesign on the rear of the can. I've changed to a modular mounting system in the style of the Saker. When I first designed this can two years ago, I had precluded this as it was too hard to make light. I used my spare time to re-examine that and after about 20 hours of work I was able to come up with a system that will only hit me with another 1.5oz for the modular threaded mount vs. the integral threaded mount. The upside is I've future-proofed to a small degree. By doing that I've also opened up machining access to the blast baffle, so I may decide to machine it for a cylindrical Inconel insert.

Much thanks
After having a better understanding of the Surefire mounting system I'll probably be selling the AAC 51T FH that I got for this. The Surefire mounts are simple and really quite clever.

The caps are finished, and I'm getting started on the more intricate fixture machining this week! I also finally gave in and purchased two if the special long-reach end mills I'll need to machine the core. That was pretty much the last thing I was waiting on, so I should be making some serious progress soon.

There were probably some people out there who thought this would remain like so many other CAD suppressors...A pipe dream. Not going to happen!

Nice work.

Question- do you really think you need so many hold downs? Seems to me that you would only need 3 with the way you made the bottom of the fixture.

I made that so I can have pretty much any area completely clear of a tool and toolholder and still have lots of holding power without having to torque down the 5/16" cap bolts too much. It may be overkill, but if the core slipped or turned while one of the main pockets was being machined it would probably be ruined. I've already got $250 in just the bar at this point, so I can't take that risk.

Progress yesterday:
Machined a thread plug gage for the modular end of the core
Picked up my endmills
Finished tapping the fixture

Today I hope to:
Ream ID to final size
Start cutting modular end of core

Got one end of the ID to final, .275". I'll still need to flip it over and ream it out from the other end. Also got some serious cutting started on the OD!

It is simple...once you get past the $250,000 in machines, tools, and material.

Hey, the CNC machine is only about $60K

Good time to do a cost breakdown so far:
Metals $160
Tooling $180
EDM $115

So final cost should be around $460.
