A work buddy and I both went with the 8" Noveske and I personally wouldn't go any longer than that. We both settled with 11.2 gr. of A1680 with the 220 gr. bullets (though 10.8 seems to give the same velocity) and he worked up a 110 gr. load that was pushing 2100 fps. I use an AAC 762-SD and he has a Gemtech equivalent. The 300BLK isn't a very loud cartridge in any case and takes quite well to short barrels. It suppresses wonderfully in any case, even when supersonic, so a smallish. 30 cal can will be plenty. His would cycle subsonics unsuppressed. Mine generally will not.
Redding 300-221 dies work fine for me and my buddy had sizing issues with the early batch of Forster dies, though they worked fine once the sizing die was replaced by Forster. If he wants an SBR in that caliber he won't have the issues that he might with 5.56x45mm, so there's no reason not to go as short as possible, IMO. |

Dane, You can go with what ever barrel length you son wants. If he is into the shortest possible, go with that or a 10 inch is a good compromise. As far as suppressors, any suppressor in 30 caliber will work fine. If you have a 9mm can, it will work well for the sub sonic loads only. I fyou will be shooting some super sonic, go with a 30 caliber suppressor. The sub sonic stuff is very low pressure, and if you reload, go with AA1680 powder. Good luck!!

My son has a Trident 9 currently being registered to our Family LLC. Are you telling me we can use his Trident 9 on a SBRed 300 Blackout? Dane PS: Here is the SBRed Lower I built him. The parts kit is RRA with a Geissele S3G Trigger. We still need to select a buffer.

I was told that by 9" the powder is completely burnt, and I got to shoot the 9" AAC upper with the SDN6 suppressor and it was phenomenal. I plan on building one soon and will have a <10" barrel. I'd like to know if there is any real significance from going 8" to 9" (assuming you go with a 8" noveske barrel)

I have a few SBRs in .300Blk. I have a 10.25 that I have been running a .45 Osprey on and it sounds phenomeonal. I also have a 9" that I run a SDN-6 on. Both lengts work well for me. I only shoot subs through the 10.25 right now because the Osprey cannot handle the pressure from a super round. Delta Company Arms makes a lot of Blackout barrels (probably the largest producer of .300blk barrels). Aaron and David are both really good folks to deal with. They are both excellent machinist and their reputation speaks for itself. Good luck!

Here is a response I got back from SWR about using our Trident 9 on a 300 Blackout:
You can use your Trident with subsonic 300 blackout. Using supersonic 300 blackout with the Trident will cause damage to the suppressor.

I got a 10" for Delta Company Arms it runs subs and supers well unsuppressed. Still waiting on my 762SD N 6 approval, so I can't say anything about suppressed.

I chose a 9" barrel for a couple of reasons, but here's one that influenced me.
In SC to hunt hogs at night you must use a handgun with a barrel no longer than 9". Enjoy your Blackout. |

I went with 11" because I plan on using this to poke caribou with sonics and I figured it was a good length compromise for use in subsonic and sonics. A little more time for the pressure to push and to stay in the rifling. If a few inches make a big deal or not, I do not know.. I do know that I love this round and the accuracy...

Yes you can use your trident on the upper but you would have to get a new fixed mount in 5/8x24 like I have for my trident on the blackout. (still waiting on the 7.62 SDN-6). It works fine but not as quiet from what I heard a true .308 can is. It is about the same or a little quieter than what my Beretta 92FS is shooting 147gr 9mm. |

the 300 Whisper, 300/221, 300 Fireball, 300 WTF or 300 AAC BLK .. all achieve everything its going to in 10.5" .. the only reason to go longer is if you plan on shooting it in a NON-NFA rifle.

It is a shorter can and it is aesthetically more appealing (IMHO). That can was designed for the blackout. |

Depends on your use of the ..308 can. The 762SD is lighter - but I prefer the bi-lock attachment of the HVT. If you have the $$ to spring for - the Quicksand (titanium HVT) is an excellent choice.

The SDN6 serves its purpose very well... But it depends on your goals. If your goal is to have the quietest 7.62 suppressor than it isn't your best bet. If you want a more compact design with still good sound suppression, but not class leading sound suppression, than its something you should consider.

Dane For the 300BLK (or double duty on that and another.30) you will probably prefer the 762-SDN-6, as it has a better mounting system, is significantly shorter and will suppress the 300BLK with ease. The 762-SD is quieter on the bigger .30s. Were I starting from scratch today I would go with the SDN-6 instead of the SD. A buddy runs a Gemtech on his .30s and I think it is a better system than the old 762-SD, though it is a fairly heavy can and not at all compact. |
