I wasn't quite sure if this belonged in the "Rimfire AR" or "Suppressor" forum.

Will this combination work?

I have successfully shot a 10.5" 1 in 9 with a Outback 2 and a M261 .22 adapter. The threads on an AR barrel are usually longer than what the book says the OB2 uses but there should be plenty of room so that you don't bottom out the threads against the insides of the can...... BUT MAKE SURE before you try.
I am the undertaker.

Never thought about that. What would I do then? Spacers?

Went on a bit of a spending spree today. Picked up the CMMG Stainless .22 kit from Palmetto State Armory ($199, including 3 26-rd mags) and what appeared to be last the 10.5" Spikes upper from AIM Surplus.

Use a spacer. Since most AR barrels have .6 inch threads and the maximum thread length for the Outback is .4 inch, use a .2 inch spacer. It could be made out of aluminum. The important thing is for the sides to be parallel.

Adco did the threading, so I'm not worried about concentricity, but where should I get the spacer? It's not, by chance, stocked by Gemtech?

I know...rookie question.

Along with my Vortex G5 mount came a packet of shims. Would two of the thickest in the packet do the trick?

ETA: Found my answer.

I doubt that the shims in our pack for clocking flash hiders will be think enough. As I said previously, the spacer needs to be 2/10 inch thick to shim a barrel threaded for .6 inch to the .22LR standard of .4 inch.

While we don't make them, we could. However, the more economical path would be to contact John Titsworth (at www.silencerresearch.com), as he has been building them. He also posts here on occasion as "1928A1."

We do not inventory spacers simply because the standard for .22LR muzzle cans is 4/10" thread length. Making a couple would be possible, but it would be at the shop rate.

Thanks, Doc. I was sent John Titsworth's way last night and dropped him a line.

Finally got it together and out to the range today. Had a failure to eject every now and again, but it ran well overall. Ammo selection will be key, as a number of them went supersonic. Still hearing safe, I suppose. This upper is not a dedicated .22LR yet, so I did put a couple mags of 5.56 through afterwards to clear the gas system. No malfs there either.

No real wringing out accuracy-wise, but I'll get to that next trip.

I do hope you took off the Outback before running the 5.56 cleanup rounds ............. :^)
