I have heard that colt 16" 1-9 twist is better than a 1-7 twist.  Is there any truth to this?

That really depends on what you intend to use the rifle for. I believe 1-9 is a better general use twist, it will shoot a wide range of bullet weights well. If you intend to compete with the rifle or shoot heavier bullets (70gr+) regularly, I would get a 1-8 or 1-7.5.

That would depend on what bullet wt you plan on shooting. The 1-9 will handle a wider range of wt's than the 1-7,but the 1-7 should handle heavy bullets better.YMMV

ok.  Just wondering.  I generally shoot 55 grain federal.  I seldom shoot anything heavier than that.  Thanks

Then I would go with the 1-9 twist.
