I'm wanting brass cased fmj for plinking cheap. Everything in the ammo world is coming down but not 308. It should be $400 when it was back 8 years ago.

First post is likely correct. Sad , but true.
I miss the surplus stuff we had coming in years back. If I told you how cheap you would not believe me. |

View Quote Between the 7.62 NATO being long since replaced as the standard rifle cartridge, the high rate of consumption due to ongoing wars for over a decade now, and global pussy anti arms treaties we are not getting any. Stupid European nations are dumping theirs in the ocean. Thanks you wankers! |

I have around 25K sitting around bought at an average price of about $130-$135 per K with shipping. [shipping used to be much cheaper then it is now]
I can find FMJ plinking ammo for around $13 per 20 rounds easily nowadays at stores. Until the golden days of surplus, .308/7.62x51 was never ''blasting'' ammo where you did mag dumps. |

A 7.62x51mm cartridge takes more raw material to build - it shouldn't be a surprise that it's more expensive.

PSA is selling 168gr FGMM for 15.99/20 rounds. That is as low as I have seen it for the last 10 years. As I continue to state, as the Creedmoors continue to increase in favor with the general shooting public, 7.62x51/.308 will become less and less cheaper.

IMHO... while prices aren't real low... now is still a good time to stock up. |

Want me some green SA battle packs, or even some blister pack Aussie. Ahh the good old days. Didn't have any cash then to stock up.

some pics from when 7.62 really was cheaper than dirt.
Attached File In there is: SA German from the 50s Aussie in the bandolier Venezuelan Indian And a bunch of delinked m60 Prices were .15-.25 cpr |
|
And if anybody sees these plastic packs of Indian 762, steer clear. Really crappy, inconsistent ammo.

I wish I was a multi millionaire like Nicholas Cage in lord of war I would buy a billion rounds of 7.62 and sell here cheap. I would put a bid and get the cheapest bidder to make it if couldn't find surplus. That would help the market the lower the prices. I know that would piss off alot of importers like chief thunder did with Bulgarian milsurp.Lol

My dad told me he could buy 1000 rounds of Hanson 308 made by ppu in the 80s for $100 when he was a dealer.

I was rearranging my ammunition stockpile...... and came across an untouched, still sealed crate of Norinco .308, brass cased, Boxer primed. 520 rounds and I paid 84.00 with shipping or just over $0.16/ round.
Yes, I realize I hoard ammo. |

NATO countries will probably have to be willing to tolerate another arm twisting before adopting it, though. The politics involved will be fun to read about, so I hope any members with inside info will keep us informed. |

If you want to shoot 7.62/.308 in any significant volume, you should really look at reloading. There are several bulk packs of pulldowns and other surplus bullets out there priced around the 17-20 cpr mark. Powder is once again plentiful, and if you load a little on the light side you should be able to get 10 loadings out of your brass.

Hornady 150 gr fmj and 168 A-Max sell in bulk. I reload these for my 308AR. You will need to reload to reap the savings!

Can't really see 7.62x51 getting cheaper than 50 cents. Most places probably have a surplus of .22, 9mm, and .223/556 and that's why you're seeing dramatic decreases in prices nowadays.

I found a SA battle pack in the garage the other day. That gave me a huge smile.
As well as a 250 rd belt 5/1 FMJ/Tracer that I remember paying $40 for. There was some surplus 308 in a can as well. It got loaded up in some mags and is ready for a range trip. New PSA PA10 arrives tomorrow. |

I bought 2 sealed cans of TZ 80 308 ammo. Got home and found out this stuff has blown up people's guns.

Correct, most of the low cost surplus is long gone. Talk about salad days, I remember in 2001 Port .308 was $120 per case, boy do I miss those days! View Quote |

SGAMMO has some Malaysian .308 for .401 cents per round shipped. Stuff is very fine and very accurate.

And it's not re-loadable, if some/any of you care. I picked up 3 cans from AIM the other day, so it's not like I'm worried. |

I still have a bunch of the Radway Green i bought before and after Y2K for really cheap.
Bought some Malaysian 7.62x51 for 38 cents a round plus shipping from AIM. Shot a little through my 2 FALs just to be sure and put it in the stash with the Radway Green. I reload for my FALs for the moment. You can get some pretty good deals on once fired brass and projectiles on some of the reloading Facebook pages. |

I have it for my HK clones. Since it isn't reloadable, it made sense since my PTR91 and 91PDW is VERY hard on brass.
