20" Colt Match HBAR... ( no bayo lug era )
As a young man, me and my friends abused the heck out of that rifle.... 100's of rounds as fast as we could fire.... |

My first gun was supposed to be an AR15. My brother a friend and I all went to the local shop to buy an AR but my brother and our friend grabbed the only 2 AR's they had. Both were full sized A2 Colts rifles. I wasn't leaving without a new rifle that day so I picked out a brand new A2 stocked HK 91 for just over $800.00.. I miss the good Ole days!

1983-84, saved up enough for my first Deer Rifle, a Rem700ADL/270win. One of the BEST shooting rifles I EVER OWNED! Like an IDIOT, I traded it away, a long time ago! Bought it from Kmart, when it was the ONLY store with a Sporting Goods Dept!

I remember the first 6 guns I bought. After that everything gets hazy.
#1 Ruger 10/22 in 1995 from LGS for $129 #2 POS Universal M1 carbine repro. in 1996 for $225 from a LGS #3 1943 MFG Springfield Armory "Blue Sky" import marked M1 Garand in 1997 for $400 at a gun show #4 1918 date SMLE No1. MK.3 also in 1997 for $100 FTF from an ad in the newspaper #5 Armalite ban era 20" AR15 also in 1997 for $899 at LGS #6 National Postal Meter USGI M1 Carbine, "Blue Sky" import marked in 1997 for $399 at a gun show from funds raised selling the previously mentioned POS Universal M1 carbine. After that the flood gates opened, and all the "original" 6 were sold/traded off for other things over the years. The only one I wish I had back was the SMLE, it was one of the cleanest, nicest ones I have ever seen to this day. I also kinda wished I kept the receiver off the import marked M1 Garand for a 308 Garand project I want to do. |

MKIII Browning Hi-Power 9mm in 1997 . It was a tossup between that and a Colt Commander . Never did end up buying a Colt .

Mid '70s and I was 13 or 14. I saved up most of my birthday and holiday money for a year. My parents used to set up a booth at the Canton, TX when it was just a flea market. HUGE place. I took my $60 and Dad down the aisles until I saw this nice Winchester Model 190. Took it home and it quickly turned into the gun I hated. Even after a good strip down and clean there was constant failure to go into battery. I finally gave up on it and used it in trade for a nice Stevens clip fed bolt action 22. Now THAT rifle is one I wish I still had. I sold it to my best friend at the time.

Browning BL-22 in the spring of 1985.
I was a senior in high school and used a "non-state issued ID" to buy it. Traded it later for a Rem 788, which in turn was traded towards a Ruger Mini-14. |

HK USP40. I sold it about 10 years ago. Biggest mistake ever. That was the most accurate handgun I have ever shot.

Some form of 12 gauge single shot shotgun-I think it may have been an NEF. I bought it in 1983, from the Big R Sporting Goods in Great Falls, MT, for the princely sum of $40. I wanted to go hunting with my Dad and he said I'd need a gun, which meant I needed a job. I got a paper route and saved my money. We went into Big R, looking for something for me to use for pheasant. They had a 12 ga break action there, which someone had put on layaway, but never picked up. I got it for the $40 they had remaining on their layaway bill.
The one time we took it afield, my Dad decided to try it first, to see how bad it was going to recoil. He put in a round of bird shot, closed the gun, pointed it skyward, and pulled the trigger. The hammer fell and nothing happened. He counted to a slow ten, cocked the hammer, and pulled the trigger. BOOM, the shotgun fired, the action cracked open, and the expended shell ejected. He commented that maybe it was a fluke, loaded another round, pointed it skyward, and pulled the trigger. BOOM, the gun fired, the action opened, and the shell flew to the ground. The gun was put away and before going home that afternoon, we stopped at Big R, where my Dad explained what happened and was able to get my money back. We then went to a local pawn shop and I bought a well-used Mossberg 20 ga bolt action shotgun with a variable choke on the end of the barrel. |

First gun I ever purchased myself was a Winchester 1300 Defender 12 gauge, at Academy. I think it was about $220. Awesome gun, wish I still had it.

Mossberg 500 20" in 1999. I let my mom borrow it to have something for home defense and she left it in the foam case I told her not to keep it in. I got it back a cpl months ago and luckily the rust spots mostly came off. I had her shoot a 16"mid AR and she's much happier with that. I slip 2k'd the heck out of it and again told her to leave it out of the case.
Ever watch a non-gun older woman rack a pump shotgun? She's 5'9" and it still looks hella awkward. Doubt she could have even gotten off 2 blasts from her back porch in time to fend off danger. |

TGI WASR-10. It had terrible feeding issues. Someday I'll own another AK.

I never took a pic, but in 1987 I bought a Dan Wesson 44V with an 8-inch barrel. It'd be nice to have one again. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/49771/image-176792.JPG |

Ruger 10/22 at 19 (mid 90's).
It was a little awkward most of its life. It's a little fancier and more refined now. 20130927_132119 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr |

In January of 2012, I purchased a Knight's Armament SR-15 as my first firearm. Within a few months, I added a Gen 4 Glock 19 into the fold. I was ruined from the start! http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu125/986S/3ECA1D35-5560-468C-9E68-E17CB2FF0347_zpsykmays3m.jpg View Quote |

The first gun I ever bought was a Yugo SKS at a gun show from a table run by a dude wearing a flak jacket and sweat pants. It was a gorgeous specimen, nearly mint and without the grenade spigot.
I sold it some months later to fund the purchase of a Glock 19. I had become concerned about home invasions after experiencing a drunk running through my front door at 0200. I miss that thing sometimes and watch for it to pop back up on armslist. Sold to an old school Arfcom type gentlemen who wanted something to burn up the thousands of rounds of 7.62x39 he had sat on since the ban era. Hard to justify picking up another one when a decent AR goes for the same price. |
