Looking to cobble together a bench to do sight in and some target shooting from. My old picnic table and plastic chairs leave a bit to be desired. I see most benches have a notch for the body to tuck into. Is there any science to this or just cut a hunk out one go? I'd prefer to not chop up too much material getting this right. What is a good amount of top to leave in front of the notch? How deep from the side is optimal? Seems like if you cut it too deep you might as well just sit behind a square top. Is there a "standard" bench used for bench rest match style shooting?
Thank you
