All,

I have an opportunity to purchase a Remington 03A3 in excellent condition. They are selling it for $1099 + taxes and transfer fees. That seems overly expensive. Does anyone in the know have a thought on this?

Thank you,

Crizz

Way too much.

I'd have a hard time talking myself into paying $750 OTD for a nice one myself.

Unless it is a particularly rare or collectable variant, the price is around $400 too high.

I got mine a few years ago from CMP for $375 IIRC. It looks like it never saw anything but an armory rack.

$1100 for an 03A3 is just to much, even in excellent condition.  $750 to $800 is about as high as I would go.

I can't remember if mine was 375 or 400.  Somewhere right around there from the CMP.  It's an all matching remington that shoots fantastic and there's no way I'd pay 1000 bucks for an 03A3.  Of course I got mine over 10 years ago and I know things change in the market.  They just don't seem that sought after to me to fetch that kind of a price.  But maybe they're starting to.  IDK.

A few years ago or like a decade +?

Around here (northern Virginia), the "standard price" for an M1917 Enfield in collectible condition, at gun shows, is more or less fixed at $800. Springfields (both '03's and '03A3's) are about $100 to $200 above that. So a price of $1,100 for an '03A3 is high, but not absurdly high. Depends on your geographic area, and the type of vendor (bricks-and-mortar store, gun show seller, private collector, etc.).

Wow, maybe they are getting a lot higher now.  Is the CMP still selling them?  Because if  guy really wanted one, my guess is they are going to be cheaper than that.  And mine was like barely ever used.  The metal on it was pristine.  Unlike my Garand.  Which looked like it truly had been through hell and back.  Well the stock.  The metal wasn't overly bad.

With the exception of a handful showing up in the stores a few years ago, no.  They haven't really had them for sale in years.

Aaah.  I got lucky then.  I'll be honest.  The Garand was the gun that won the war but I actually prefer shooting my 03A3.  I can't really tell you why, but I just do.   I really wanted a regular 03, but oh well.

The only '03's I've been seeing are the ones that James River Armory has been refinishing and selling.  They probably sell for about that.

It just depends on what you mean by excellent condition.

Well, sometime after 2004. I know that for sure.

Sounds like the Cabela's gun library. I saw a couple of nice 03A3s on the rack for north of $1k each IIRC
