Looking to get into a 7.62x39 bolt gun for a range gun and coyote/deer rifle for my daughter, 2" at 100yds. is good enough. What options are out there ? Price range for new and used ? Are they .311 bores ?  Good for a under 200 yds whitetail rifle ? Anything I need to know ? -Thanks

CZ527 is well regarded. Should fit your needs well.

I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting 7.62x39 but you'll have better bullet options in 300BO with slightly better ballistics. Remington makes the Model 7 and 700 in 300BO.

Either caliber is a fine 200yd deer cartridge. Hornady makes the 7.62x39 with the SST bullet.

Remington used to make one.  Not sure if they still do.  I think it had a 5XX numbering too.  But yeah, the CZ.

Also, a .30-30 is very similar in ballistics.  Especially now with the hornady lever revolution.  But that being said, I like the idea of a 7.62 x39 bolt gun too.  I don't own one though.

There have been several versions of the Zasteva Mini Mauser that have been imported in 7.62x39, such as the Charles Daly and the Rem 799. Seem to be pretty good but may have extractor problems with steel case ammo (I think they have an improved extractor at some point).

I know it's not what you asked, but you could look at the Howa mini-action in 6.5G that now has sub-30c steel-cased ammo and is 2-3 MOA stuff.

If I were to buy one I would probably go with the 527 American, I would also wouldn't rule out a 243 of some sort.

I have a CZ 527, it is a fine little rifle.  Hitchcock 45 does a nice video on it, check it out to get a better idea of what it's like.

I have a Remington/Zastava 799 in 7.62x39.  Zastava barreled action in a Remington stock.  A nice, handy little rifle.

Another vote for the CZ527.  I finally got my hands on one about a year ago.  Liked it so much, I sold my last AK.  (Then I picked up a replacement AK about six months later).

Its light weight, has decent iron sights, and the set trigger is a very nice touch.  Five round DBM, too.

Handy little rifle that shoots cheap ammo very well.

I really liked my mini Mauser.

Super low recoil. Accurate. Short and light.

I could consistently put a 20rd box of wolf into a 2inch target at 100yds.  Took awhile to cool but doable.

I found the magazine e wouldn't hold five rounds and feed.  I only loaded 3+1 and it was good.

Shot a few coyotes with it   most with wolf jhp.
The one deer I shot with a 7.62X39. Was with my sks and a win sp.

If I was going to use that caliber again. I'd probably use a tsx bullet.  But I use those in all my calibers.

I would get either the mini Mauser or the CZ   I don't think you'd be unhappy with either.

My dream woods bumming  rifle is that style stock, side folder  , peep sights.   10 rd Mag.

Basically a bolt action side folder AK.

The mini-mausers and CZ look like nice choices. But if you like to build stuff, Rhineland makes a kit to convert a Mauser 98 action to x39. The barrel headspace is set with a savage type barrel nut, and a magazine adapter accepts CZ mags. Looks like a fun project.

And a few years ago an Austrailian company began making new Lee Enfields in 308 and 762x39. The idea appealed to people that wanted the style of the Lee Enfield, but there were quality issues and they are no longer made.

Either of the WW2 military style rifles would probably not perform any better than the CZ, but are neat if you like their style. (edited for more rifle info!)

psegnatelli, custom one of a kind stock from LAGS Custom Gunsmithing in Mesa, AZ. Also holds a spare 5 round magazine there at the sling swivel. He has it back with him right now, making some changes that will up the WOW factor a bit.

I had a Ruger M77 stainless years ago. Wish I had never traded that one. It was a pretty accurate rifle. Took a bunch of deer with it.
Traded it for a left hand Rem700 in 25-06.

I had an AIA M-10 and a Remington "mini mauser".

I'd suggest a CZ.

CZ 527

/thread

The zastava products are ROUGH and not much cheaper.  The 527's are super accurate.

I really really really want a 527 too.  They're so much fun.   Accurate as hell, even good accuracy with cheap russian ammo.
