My dad bought a lever action rifle from a buddy of his and about two weeks ago we went to shoot it but couldn't

Let me first say I know nothing about lever action rifles so I was trying to learn on the fly.

I put a round in through the side and pulled/pushed the lever and all it did was click.

What am I missing?

I assume the hammer cocked and fell with the trigger pull, further assuming you had the proper caliber ammo, should have went bang.

Did you eject the round that failed to go bang and look at the primer to see if it was indented?

Are you even sure the round chambered?

Make and caliber?

More information, perhaps such as what did you do then?

Agreed……

Some lever actions do have a safety……

Safety bar, one the right side. Push it in.

Assuming it's a Marlin.

For reference next time you have an issue.

For those asking caliber, OP said it was a 44 Mag in the title.

I can't throw stones, I failed to make a comment about the safety in my post

I guess I assumed when it failed to fire the safety was checked or the OP had enough knowledge to have considered the safety.

After it went click, I cocked the lever (why does that sound wrong?) and the round flew out. I didn't think to check the case at the time.

I haven't noticed a safety but I'll look. I would never think a gun would go "click' with the safety on, I just assumed the trigger wouldn't budge.

Not sure on the make, I'll check and see.

Thanks for the help though.

If it's a firing pin block, it can go click without firing.

You need to do some reading, and educate yourself.

So the "click" was when the hammer fell, right?

It would help a lot if you knew the make and model……

Yes, the hammer fell.

It's a 44 man.

Reminds me of the customer needing something to get his motorcycle running  Yes i possibly need an electrical part for my dirt bike. it's not running.

Sure , what make , year and size of engine?   Ummmm It's a red one

Great, who is the manufacturer ?

Well............ it's a red one with black seat and missing the front fender.

Ok lets try it again. WHO Made the Dirt Bike. Honda, Yamaha, Kawi?  Usually Honda's are red. So going off that what year and size engine do you think it is.?

All i know is it's a red one

Sounds like this thread. Who made the gun. It only clicks when you pull the trigger.

If its not a issue with the safety I would check the firing pin, I had a handgun that had a bad firing pin and it wasn't hitting the primer hard enough about half the time.

Some lever guns will still go click even with the lever not fully closed.

Ha, sorry guys, been super busy with work and other things. We haven't had a time to mess with the rifle.

I'll go above and beyond and get some pictures of it so you all can see what we're working with.
