As annoying as a lot of fads are, I think its the anti-fad people that annoy me the most.  Whenever something becomes a fad, theres always the enlightened holier-than-thou purists that love to tell everyone how they are smarter than everyone else because they DONT do something other people do.  Theyre basically like the hipsters of the gun world.

So they should be forced into getting things that they don't like, want, or need?

Haha... what the hell are you talking about?
Who exactly is being FORCED into getting things they dont like, want, or need?  Besides, the question wasnt just about product specific fads anyway... not that it changes the fact that no one is being FORCED into anything.

The original question started with gadget overloading and c-clamp gripping.  I saw someone talking about prepper obsession and someone else talking about terminology over usage.  I didnt even say anything about "things" that, apparently, people are being forced into to buying.

Things that annoy me: (not really fads)

People acting like guns that they bought because they were super cheap are just as good as anything more expensive.

Thinking about how people think I'm a 'Tier 1 Operator' gun snob, but don't realize I am thinking they are a 'Mall Ninja' gun snob. We're like some sort of gun culture Yin Yang....

People posting in a shit way that is a preemptive strike against those who think the opposite way. Like "Well a bunch of posers are going to tell you the only answer is 'Colt', but really the best answer is 'PSA'." Shit like that.

Everyone on the Internet has an opinion so it's tough to filter out what's truly important at times and worry about things that ultimately don't matter all that much.

No, but they don't have to put down the early adopters, or hipsters, or whatever you want to call the people that do adopt new things that maybe are popular on the internet.

AR fads are great - once the fad burns out there are usually tons of mall
Ninja types chasing the next far and dumping older stuff cheap to feed the newest bestest addiction.
I used to collect stuff - had over fifty long guns and forty pistols at one point- but decided to trim down to a limited collection of sentimental stuff and only keep what I use otherwise- now for blasphemy- I can probably be very content with two Ar types one 16" run and gun type and a 20" cmp competition type. I could even feel pretty happy about just one lower and two uppers. I will be leaving gun owner hell in New York at the end of June and once I settle into my new free state home will put together a nice rifle to celebrate!

poster abve is butt-hurt that more people who will shoot a total of less than 10,000 rounds through their AR's in their entire lifetimes don't value, 'ooh' and 'ahh!' at his expensive gear.

Well, I got through pg. 9 before I posted. I'm new to the AR thing. My 1st AR was an in-expensive base model Diamondback. It was not very accurate at 100 yrds, and I didn't even know it was mostly the ammo I was using. I started assembling AR's late last year and have built 5 to date. Did I fall victim to the Fan Fad craze, Yes. Did I purchase some cheap parts, optics...Yes. Did I overspend on some parts..Yes. Did I sometimes choose form over function...sure. I started this because I'm not much of a TV guy, I work out of town at least 6 days a week. and I wanted a constructive hobby, to keep my mind busy. I enjoy hunting, going to range, though I don't get a chance to do either much because of work and the fact that it seems to rain every day I'm off. I've got lucky for the most part and in truth have put together, what I believe are some fine weapons. They all function well and are accurate, as my skills can make them. I enjoy the assembly and my RV is getting kind of full. I've learned alot from you guys and have taken some flaming for some of my choices, but it's all good. Here are some photos of my builds and a couple of purchases which i made modifications to.

1st
Mega lower, 18" Bull Barrel, ATN X-Sight

Ruger Precision Rifle with Seekins Handguard, LRI Bolt Shroud and Bolt knob

300 Blackout Pistol

WarSport LVOC, Vortex Strike Eagle, (attempt at all metal build)

Another 300 Blackout, cheap Sightmark, Fortis Night Rail, Gibbz Side charge, Seekins Lower (BTW The cheap red dot holds zero and good battery life, go figure)

My BAD BAD LW Build, Trijicon MRO

So, theres all your fab favorites, bad decisions, good decisions, cheap optics, expensive optics, color fill...all in one post...and I love 'em all

If A1 or A2 uppers suddenly came back into fashion to the point where they were readily available from multiple vendors, I'd be OK with that.

The Yo Dog rails on your rails on your rails thing got a bit ridiculous there for a while.  I'm glad that Mlock and keymod and such came along and allows the user to put shit where they want without making the gun weigh as much as a BAR.

Picatinny rails will never die, lighter weight slim quad rails with ergo ladder covers are very comfortable imo.  Picatinny will always be the standard for the military, it's stronger and simpler than the others.

You guys crack me up, I have had a great time building exactly what I liked. All my weapons perform like they are supposed to. I've got a few more I'm working on and again, despite popular opinion, I will again, build exactly what i want. I have no intent to sell, trade or build anything that someone else thinks is right or wrong. Call it what you want.
