Whether you thought you didn't have a use for it, it was out of your price range, it was too ugly, too heavy, too boring or common, too cheaply made, too impractical, didn't shoot it well or was in the wrong caliber...

What's CURRENTLY in arsenal that you never thought you'd have?

ETA: for me, it was Glocks.

Glock

Hated them for years. The 4th Generation came out so I bought a G21 after handling one. Its a pretty good .45 but its the only Glock I'll own

My first pistol was a gen 2 Glock. Couldn't hit shit with it as it had the stupid NY trigger in it. Swore them off for 20 years. Bought a 19 last year and also a 20.

Styer M95 carbines.....odd ass caliber that's expensive and beats you the hell up. I own 2 because they were $50 ea and I had a C&R at the time

. I've got around 250rds of nazi marked ammo for them, still have yet to shoot either one.

Mosin Nagants. Cheap, not particularly accurate, great for making noise with cheap ammo and that's about it.....I own 6 of them, 2 original PU sniper variants, and 2 M44's. Still looking for M38 and 91/59 and Finnish versions.

Nagant revolver. Stupid heavy single action trigger pull, even stupider double action trigger pull, weird gas seal revolver design.....I own 4 of them

Martini Henry MKII and IV's. Ammo's expensive and guns were always stupid expensive....then I found IMA's Nepal cache rifles and bought 2 of each....and a pair of local made Nepalese ones....and 2 nepalese snider rifles......and 2 officers carbines.....and 2 muskets. Thinking about getting some more of the Nepal Cache guns the next time I'm back in PA.

Now I consider NOTHING off of my potential buy list. I realize I have an affinity for weird and unique firearm designs. If it's something out of the ordinary I will probably buy at least 1.

In the 90s S&W supported the AWB and I swore I'd never buy one. Management changed and the company company now supports 2A. I broke down and bought my first around 2010. Now I have at least 4 and I continue to be impressed at their quality and value.

Me too. My first was in 2013. Went up to four and now it's at two.

Strikers, never really liked them. It took the M&P and now with both the P320 and VP9 to get me evolved and with the times now that there is quality out there and not hype.

Luger. After I got rid of the first one I had, I swore I'd never get another. Had to have 124 gr FMJ ammo to get it to cycle. After I got rid of the second one I had, I swore I'd never get another. Six years later, I'm still safe with my vow to never get another. Luger prices have got so stupid high, odds are very good that I'll actually never get another one.

AR-15. Up here in Canada they're classed as restricted firearms so we can only fire them at approved ranges. That and they fired what I considered to be a "wuss" round -- I'm a dedicated 30-calibre and up man -- made me avoid them for years.

Bought my first one in October and now it's easily my favourite rifle. In a SHTF scenario I don't know if I'd grab my Vz.58 or my AR-15.

Mosin, which I guess I held true to since when I did eventually get one, it was for free. Fired it a couple times and sold it for a bill. It's neat to be able to own a functioning piece of history on the cheap, but as a gun it still does nothing for me.

ARX 100. When it first came out I didn't like how it looked, and when I checked one out at the LGS I didn't like it at all. The next time I went I decided to take a look at it again and I began to like it a bit and eventually got it. I find I now enjoy shooting it more than my other rifles in the safe.

A 9MM semi auto. I was a 1911/.45 acp guy. I ran across this strange looking Browning pistol at a gun store. Asked what it was, did some research, it had all kinds of cool/different features I'd never seen on a factory pistol before. It was a Browning BDM, two tone (satin nickel frame, blued slide). I got it for $385. It feels good in my hand but I eventually stopped messing with it. It bites my trigger finger pretty bad and it's not really accurate enough to suit me. But it started me down the 9MM road.

Then I bought a Glock. Swore I'd never have one after shooting a couple over the years and the accuracy being so piss poor compared to my pretty much stock 1911's. Well, same story. Just never got the accuracy I needed, even with the various reloads I tried. I put it away, too.

The S&W M&Ps. I used to swear I'd never buy a S&W semi auto. Anybody that changes their design around ever few years knows they are making piss poor guns (and selling them anyway while working on their next design). Well, I bought two. Parked both of those, too. Function issues and accuracy issues with the .357 SIG pistol.

AR15's. Swore about them for years. Then I finally bought one (neat looking little XM177 clone) and the darned thing was at least reliable and accurate beyond my experience in the Army. Since then I've build more of them and all of them, so far, exceed my military experiences with their full auto cousins.

ACR. Handled one when they first came out. Felt terrible and was overpriced. A few years later they dropped significantly in price and I ordered one online. Picked it up at my FFL and immediately regretted my decision. I didn't even shoot it and held onto it for a few months before getting my money out of it.

Tried out s VP9 and couldn't get it out of my mind.

Also a 1911 in 9mm. It seems so wrong but shoots so right.

A 1911 in .45ACP. I'm a 9mm guy. I never wanted anything to do with .45ACP or .40S&W.

Alas, my Israeli guns collecting hobby forced me into buying a .45ACP 1911... and then another. I'm undecided about a third (I'd like it in 9mm), but we'll see how it plays out. I don't really shoot them much, but have enough ammo and mags to press them into action in a pinch.

Yup, all that plastic, no nice walnut, no glossy blued finish... Could have had one for about $200 in 1973-1974, ended up buying one a few years later at $409...

Over the years ended up trading that SP-1 in, and have several...

Now waiting on a 1921 Colt Thompson, never thought I'd get one of those...

Glocks---- while they'll never win a beauty contest they are a god awful simple design and the damn things just work

Remington 7600 pump rifle----growing up in PA every dumbass road hunter or dip shit FUDD had one

AR's---until age 22 I believed all of the BS about them, even after being in the USAF for three years. Once I finally shot expert with a beat to shit FN A2 in 2007 I realized that I had been very wrong about the platform

SAA's---always thought the SAA was an overhyped and very dated design. While it is dated it is still a neat revolver

Ruger 10/22---always thought they were overhyped and homely looking. While still somewhat homely looking they aren't a bad .22 rifle, they just have a shitty factory trigger

Forgot to add that I am on my 3rd G20. Gen2 and Gen3 were complete POS's that broke and were very hyped up that they always went bang but obviously it missed the internet memo that it was supposed to.

Sig P226. I've now owned 3 and I'm down to my MK25.
Sig P220. Owned two, kept one.
Glock: owned 5, sold them at one time or another, wound up with a 34 and now it's part of the carry rotation

HK: Owned 2 USPs, 2 P30s, and an HK45.

I think the HK45 may make a reappearance in the safe. I actually liked it.

FN Five seveN and PS90. Couldn't believe anyone would spend that kind of money on a glorified 22Mag.

That didn't work out to well for me. I went deep, and the Five seveN has been my everyday carry for over a year now. Once you actually do some research and tests, sometimes you learn things aren't as they seem.

AR-15

first one I shot seemed to try to throw the brass right in my face (I shoot left handed). Felt light and fragile compared to my AKs.

Still prefer AKs but I have warmed to ARs

Still don't see the benefit of high end optics ($300+), rather get something decent mid range and spend the extra on other stuff

I was another die hard AK fan that wouldn't even consider owning an AR, as they are unreliable mouse guns. 20 years later I have six ARs and not a single AK. I also dismissed the idea of owning a stoopid revolver because they only hold five or six rounds an they suck compared to a Glock. 20 years later I still own and carry Glocks but I own more revolvers by a good margin. Funny how things change.

Thus far I have not ruled anything out without buying it. But with revolvers and 1911's I have said "never again", then bought them again. Right now I am say "never Kel-Tec again" , but who knows? That M43 looks cool if they ever actually make them.

AR-15 and Glock.

AR's bore me and have little appeal to me but I bought one just to have one.

I like the simplicity and reliability of the Glock, but hate the trigger despite reducing the pull and different shooting advice. Just another gun I own just to have.
