Those who have one of these rifles, what are the best bets for affordable magazines and where are you getting them? I have several G3 clones and am fair at working on them, so I am not too worried about the quality issues.  $70 per mag is pretty tough to swallow for genuine HK. I know that Promag makes mags for it but I just don't know how good they are. I know someone else was making mags that were smoke/translucent, but I don't know what the quality of those are either. I would love to have a 93, I just don't know if I can put up with expensive or non functioning magazines.

I had a C93 for a while. Had several of the translucent polymer ones. Don't remember who made them but they weren't US. Turkish maybe? Ran 100% but had to be fitted to the gun. Also had a couple of steel HK mags that worked fine. Had some aluminum ones (HK?) as well that ran. Yeah, mags are expensive.

From what I understand, this is one of the few cases where Promag actually makes a good product. I've heard mostly good things about them for the C93, a little fitting here and there, but mostly they just work.

Anecdotally I have heard that the mag catches on some of the guns are worn and at fault for the sometimes poor mag fit. Some of the receivers are reported to have uneven mag wells as well.  Mag catch is an easy fix, but the mag well can be fixed too.

I have one on the way and figured even if it needed some professional love, it was a decent entry into the 5.56 roller locked world.  Been doing research to see all the possibilities.

got mine for $40 each for actual HK mags from apex. They still have them, but its $45 each now when you get 4.

ProMags work really well and they are only $12-14.

Even if they eventually self destruct it is still cheaper to just buy another one than to buy Factory or Mil Surplus metal magazines.

Are more MKE magazines going to become available?

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I will pick up a C93 and feed it with the Pro-Mags.

I just got the 4 mags for $45 from Apex, they are actually in very good shape, I thought I may have to Duracoat but not needed, fit great in both my C93 rifle and pistol.

There is a post in the hk forum here with a video on how to fit the promags/mke. Hkspecialist has the mke mags.

Do I need to get a C93?

I just order some more 40rd aluminum mags from Apex. The price just keeps going up year after year. The Promags work well and should last for years, but after the AWB 94-04, never assume you can just replace a magazine cheaply, or at all, if it brakes, wears out, or fails.

My c93 will only work with metal hk mags or contract mags. I bought them for $15 each about five or so years ago from J&G when I bought my c93. The MKE translucent mags wont even lock in and pro mags can be made to work in mine but not with out logs of filing. I really need to send my C93 to someone that could fix or completely rebuild it on a new receiver.

You can easily modify the MKE mags to work. Granted, you'll have to use a Dremel and they will look like dookie, but they'll work.
