I like to collect military/tactical/practical style rifles/carbines, built from about 1950 on (take that to mean whatever you want) and have the crazy goal of eventually owning pretty much every commercial one ever made. I don't mean every version of every rifle, but at least one (so one AK, but not every flavor, for example).

That being said, I started thinking I should concentrate now on rifles that have already been discontinued, and are intrinsically a little more rare, as their price will most likely go up.

Off the top of my head, I have the following list:

HK USC/UMP
Robinson Arms M96
FN F2000
Daewoo K2
FN FNC
AR 70
AR 180
HAC 7
M17S
Calico 9mm
SIG AMT

EDIT:
Im editing this post to have a full list for those who are interested. I'm not adding things like a polytech legend, because that is version of the AK/AKM design (please correct me if I am wrong on this assessment), or suggestions like the colt sp1, because that is a version of the AR platform. I'm trying to keep to the list to military/tactical/practical style rifles/carbines, 1950's or so manufacture forward - that are available in the US.. I appreciate all the responses, so don't feel snubbed if your suggestion does not make the list.

Forum Additions:
Galil
Dragunov
Leader Dynamics T2 MK5
Bushmaster ARM
Ruger PC9 or PC4
FAMAS
L85/SA80 (Only about 100 in the US!)
Marlin Camp Carbine
HK93 (C93?)
Springfield SAR-4800
SAR-8 HBCSR
BM59
SIG 551 (550)

Some shotguns, just to muddy the water:
SPAS 12
Cobrey Street Sweeper

Anyone have any more that I should add to the list?

Thanks!

A   NDM 86 Dragunov , Polytech Legend , Norinco Mac90,Colt SSA, FM Detective HIPower
Sig 225, Sig 210 orginal version
Those are a few that I can think of

I suppose you did say rifle and I listed a few pistols but I will add to the list.

Vintage M-14,M1 and 30 Carbine maybe a 03A3

If I can add in another pistol I'd say a Colt Python

I know, that's why after I bought pretty much all the guns I could in CA I moved to WA, I just have not updated my location in my profile yet.

I've got about 100-120 or so in my collection so far, so i'm pretty up to speed on the laws.

Thanks for the responses so far! There are a few that I've added to my list. Keep 'em coming!

Don't know if this fits your definition, however I feel the Ruger PC-9 and PC-40 are discontinued items and becoming rare to find at gun shows.

Definately need a FAMAS and an L85/SA80. Do you have a HK93?

I really wish Lone Wolf was still doing the Glock mag conversions on them.

I was going to go with the Savage 99. The Winchester 88 needs to be on that list too.

Hey the 99 was carried by the Montreal Home Guard during WW1.

They're practical in some manner arent they!? And those are about about as tactical as you can get here in Canada.

Remington 725.

This was made for only lhree years in the late 1950's.  It was what the Remington 700 should have been before the cost cutting.  It is essentially a pre-700 700 with a real three position safety permitting the bolt to be cycled while on safe, classic walnut stock with real checkering, black anodized and checkered aluminum butt plate and other extras.  It was Remington's answer (a better one, frankly) to the Winchester pre-'64 70 Featherweight.

This would have made a better sniper bolt gun than the 700.

this right there

along with the following:

AR180
FNC
Winchester Model 88
Savage Model 99
Ruger PC9---I have one but I rarely shoot it because good luck finding spare parts
Ruger P-series pistols
Ruger Mark II .22 pistols----seriously the Mark II was the best version of that series
S&W third gen auto pistols

Not quite yet, but you can add the SIG-550 series to that list. I believe we might see SG-540s imported from Chile soon though. Are the CZ-58s drying up? Does CZ make them anymore?

I always really liked the Robinson M96. The shooting characteristics were simply amazing and it was a solid, well built weapon. Sadly, it gets kind of over shadowed by people who focus more on what it could've been(ie belt fed variants that never materialized) as opposed to what it actually was- a damn nice 5.56 carbine. I think the ACR gets judged in a similar fashion too, which is a real shame. I'd love a belt-fed M96 or .300 Blk ACR SBR, but the lack of these options don't in any way degrade the performance of the base 5.56 variants.

I always thought the Springfield SAR-4800 in 5.56 were neat guns, as were the SAR-8 HBCSR's. The latter was especially cool, being kind of a budget MSG-90.

Winchester Hotchkiss Model of 1883... nothing says fun like a .45-70 Bolt Action for military engagements.

Also it never went into production but I still want a Magpul Folding Glock Carbine.

I'm just happy I own a lot of what has been mentioned.  Makes me feel good.  Daewoo's, Sig 225, Bushmaster M17s's, SPAS-12, Maadi, PSL's and Norinco's, etc etc...  I love collecting. A couple you guys make me realize I "need"...

Edit: The model 88 is a great gun and I have a couple in the family, that and the model 100s. Same with the Smith 3rd gen 3913, 4013 etc.

sub2k with aluminum receiver. With the price that the plastic framed sub2k goes for in the secondary market, why doesn't Kel-tec make it aluminum with some other improvements like an actual feed ramp?! So what if it adds $100 to the gun, people would still pay and they would have less warranty claims.

USGI M1 Carbines. Maybe we can get IBM or IH/Case to start making these again.
