Question is exactly like the title states. I currently have a Sig716 patrol that I really like, but I have been thinking about selling it and buying a SCAR. I have not shot a SCAR17, but I have handled one and I really liked the way it felt and I really really liked the weight compared to the 9.8lb empty Sig. What would you do in my situation?

Keep the Sig.  Buy a SCAR when your budget allows.  I am biased because I don't really believe in selling guns, just buying.

My SCAR17 is one of my favorite rifles to shoot and I would still go this route, as long as I think I could save up enough over the course of the next year.

If you wind up always leaving one in the safe when going to the range, then sell the other at a later date.

Keep the Sig.

Borrow & shoot a SCAR 17 to see if you really like it, some don't.

I say sell. 716 is heavy, and the SCAR shouldn't be less accurate. The only downside is mags and rifle cost more. Go ahead and list your 716 a few places for more than the minimum you would take for it. If you can, obtain the SCAR before moving the Sig. You can easily come down on the price, but not up. Check market values on Gunbroker.com advanced search, and only look at prices other used 716's have sold for.

I would say keep the Sig 716. I love mine it is a tack driver and never once failed me.  Yeah it's heavy but so what.

I had a Scar and sold it, was a neat rifle but I prefer the AR ergos of the Sig.

This is what I am trying to do. Not many people around here own one and most of my LGS don't even sell em. I'm going to visit family in SC soon so I will go to PSA and rent their demo gun. It's like 60 something bucks.

1. Save up and buy the SCAR 17 before election time.

2. Keep the SIG for a rainy day, by rainy I mean when panic buying sets in again.

3. ????

4. Profit.

If you want the SCAR sell the SIG and get it.  I was never one to believe in keeping $$ tied up in firearms I don't shoot anymore.

Hate to be the party pooper! You can't buy spare parts for the 716. Knowing how FN works from past experience that means they don't either. Buy from a company with a proven platform and sells spare parts. Shit will happen on rare occasions.

Owned both, did a shoot off using a friends Sig 716 against my SCAR, recoil on 716 greater  even though it was heavier, tested with both the PWS and a AAC 51T MITER. Accuracy was excellent from both, 716 had a better reticle/power. Sold the 716, have two SCAR 17s now! I have had several AR 10 type rifles, but the SCAR 17s is the better package. The entry price is a little high but there deals to be found. If  the SCAR didn't exist I would give the Ruger SR308 a look, seems to feel lighter and better balanced, not that the 716 isn't a nice rifle!

Just got a 716. I like it a lot. Have fired the SCAR, and it's a good rifle, balances well. But I prefer the ergonomics of the AR system.
