A Ukulele case works well. Some of the gig bags have shoulder straps.

no, not tennis bag, b/c I don't want some random guy trying to talk to me about tennis about which I know not the first thing.

as far as music casses, I am not a musician eitehr so see above.  also, I am looking for a carry bag more than just a discrete transport bag to get the gun from my door to the car.  Musical instrument cases w/ a strap are not really good ways to carry loads on your person.

almost.  thanks for posting. The covert holds an M4, looks like you could probably leave the stock extended to the second position, or put a 16" gun in there w/ the stock collapsed fully.

Reviews on the shorty M4 versiou reveal that a guy w/ a 10.5" w/ unknown muzzle device & butt can barely stretch the zipper over it.  That woudl probably be a good bag for a 9" or less barrel AR w/o a folding mechanism

I am looking for something more for a 8-9"  barrel w/ side folder.  And that sling pack thing they have, its enomrous, I handled on in the fun shop, that big triangle is way bigger than any normal type back pack.

this might work:
http://www.511tactical.com/covrt-triab.html

its an ambi and convertibl eb/t sling and back pack.  I think its 20" high inside so just long enough for an 8-8.5" AR (w/ side folder) depending on muzzle device and could be used as a chest rig of sorts if worn upright on the front. not sure on the dimensions though.

I looked at tactical tailor and blackhwak. they have some things but either real long for like commandos or for like hand guns, or not ambi or left handed.

i did get an email from 5.11 finally, they said internal dimension is 20" long.  Probably an 8" barrel w/ law folder and like an a2 flash hider would work right?  THey said the mak length should be like 19"

I agree. My case comes tomorrow. They come in floral patterns also.

There are a few inexpensive baritone ukulele cases on Amazon... I have a mandolin that has a soft sided yet somewhat rigid case... my Beretta ARX-100 wouldn't fit in that, so a regular ukulele sized case may be a little small for a 16" rifle with a folding stock, but when I get around to SBRing my AK pistol, it will fit quite nicely in a mandolin or uke case.

Yep, baritone ukulele case.  They're semi-hard sided so the gun doesn't flop around, and some have straps so you can wear it like a backpack.  Fedora is strictly optional.

These aren't a bad looking ukelele bag.

Might be a bit long for a folding stock design though.

This is the same style bag in a 20" length.  A little skinny, so it might not work depending on your optics and preferred magazine.

Sounds like it's out of the range you want to spend, but take a look at the vertx commuter. There's some videos on YouTube. As it says, it's feature rich. I was in the same situation, but I'm running a 10.5" with the folder, so I went with the gammut pack. My pistol is 22" folded, the bag measurements are a little shy but the pack can stretch and not give anything away.

Those are some great looking bags, even if they're a bit pricey.

My uke case. $50 shipped. I have the tennis racket bag also but I like the uke case better because I don't have to break down the SBR. It looks like it was made for it.

The Hazard / Evac sling bags are another good option - many different sizes & cheaper than some other options mentioned as well.
