A good friend has given me a pretty rare cartridge I  believe, a 50 x 3 1/4 round that must be at least 40+ years old. Head stamped 'V Navy F'  50 x 3 1/4. I've read that the original 'dummy' rounds on old Winchester bullet boards are pretty valuable and I'm familiar with Val Forgetts' work, also the big 50 calibre rounds but have never seen anything like this. Just a huge cartridge, the bullet itself has to weigh around 600g's. This thing looks like a cigar and would surely bring down an elephant.
What is known about Mr. Forgett's work with these big rounds and just how rare is this piece?

Sorry for lack of photo's, bad storm hit shortly after post and I had to take everything down, really got pounded.
Anyway here are three shots of the round:

Shown with a .38 special and .44 Special for comparison:

Tip of bullet, looks like an old 'devastator' bullet with a primer embedded, I guess they were  worried the bullet itself wouldn't cause too much damage?

Close up of Headstamp:

Hope that helps.

That's a HUGE bitch!
I wonder what that might be worth. Very cool stuff. Thanks for sharing.
