Hey guys I need some help. I just bought a .308 AR and looking for some suggestions for optics. I want to be able to hunt, fun at the range or be ready for the zombie apocalypse. I thought about a Acog but I'm used to a red dot such as a aimpoint.

budget?  What distances will you be hunting at?

I like a little more magnification for the range, but hunting may limit you to a lower range to maintain a wide field of view up close or for fast moving animals.

I'm getting the same Vortex for my AR 7.62. I just put a lesser Vortex Viper (2.5-10 HD) on my Romanian PSL and couldn't be happier with it.  I'm super excited to try the PST model with FFP..

One of these. Not too expensive. Good glass. Reliable.

Something that gives you a low end and a useable 6x. (I don't consider a 6x with a 20-24mm objective useable.)

Zeiss Conquest Duralyt Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 1.2-5x 36mm Illuminated #60 Reticle

Something with a little more magnification, but a useable low end.

Zeiss Conquest HD5 Rifle Scope 2-10x 42mm Z-Plex Reticle

I just picked up a Bushnell Elite 10x for one of my AR-10s.   Seems to work pretty well, though some people have a hard time with fixed power scopes.

SWFA super sniper scope in x6 power. Not too much, not too little. 300 bucks, 40 bucks for matching rings.

I've used it on my 16" AR10 after my mk4 LR/T was relocated onto my 50.

While not the 6x, I have run 10x on several of my AR-10s and Savage bolt guns as well as a 20x on my AR-50.

Clear glass and rugged as hell.

Now running 3-15x SS scopes but they are a bit more than $300.

Budget is not really a issue, I want to use the rifle for hunting, fun at range, SHTF...whatever so I want versatile. I like the acog and I have been looking at the 1-4.5x24 scopes like trijicon makes but have never looked thru one.
