Hello ARFCOM!

Back in the joy of Black Friday I built an basic AR that I was planning on giving to my brother as a graduation present.
He decided to move to Kalifornia (for programming work) and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of an AR.
So instead of giving it to him, I traded it for a used Taurus 1911 Duotone.

It cost me a hair over $500 for the AR, including shipping / FFL.
I was just wondering if the hive thinks I got a good deal.

The AR:

The Taurus:

Smoking deal. Getting rid of any Taurus auto is a blessing, trading it up is even better.

Are those orlites in the AR? Those were my first AR15 mags I bought in 04

Are you happy? Did you need/want another handgun?

Wait I thought his brother gave him the AR back and took a Taurus.

The other way around. Shit deal.

I'm happy, I think
I'll be more happy after shooting it tomorrow.

My only other handgun is a G19.
It is my first 1911.

I built a complete ptac rifle on a psa blem lower for 430$ after shipping. Was banging a 10" steel gong at 200 yards with a colt carry handle. Put 500 rounds of pmc 55 grain through it with zero malfunctions.

Taurus is a hit or miss. Sorry. Hope it works out for you.

Eta: pic of budget build.

If you are happy with what you gave for what you got then it was a good trade. Either way, it is done! Breathe-in, breathe-out, move-on.

I think 90% of the hate for Taurus is deserved.

I have first hand experience with what I think is their 2 best pistols. PT92 and the PT1911.
My PT92 has only ever given me one hiccup. It was returned to Taurus and I had the pistol back within 2 weeks. Issues was the slide take-down pin broke. I have close to 6500 rounds thru the pistol since warranty  work.

The PT1911 has run flawlessly with all variety of ammo, and mags. Including factory and high end Wilson Combat's, to even C-Product 1911 mags ( Copes had then cheap a long time ago ).

I didnt pay MSRP for either pistol, and have gotten a lot of life out of each unit. These clones/knock off's I think are the only real liable units from Taurus and can be great units.
If I could do it over again, I might go with Berreta only for all the surplus mags that are available. But only for that reason. I prefer the frame safety vs slide safety.

As far as the Taurus vs the PTAC AR you build, I think they might have gotten a fair better deal trade wise. But they got those cheap IMI mags that PSA has been blowing out.

I say buy a case of ammo and burn thru it.

PT1911

PT92

As long as your happy with the deal that's the main thing, personally I don't think I would have done it even up.

Thanks for the Input guys. (and/or gals)
If I post a  Taurus-butthurt thread in a few weeks, feel free to say "I told you so".

I took it to the range the other day and put 250 rounds (Winchester White Box 230 grn.) through it with no problems whatsoever.
It was a blast to shoot. I doubt it will be my last 1911.
I find that I'm more accurate with the Taurus than my G19 that I have considerably more practice with.
Nice groups at 25, and 3 shots to hit a green-bean can at 100 yards. <May not be anything special but I was pleased

I agree that I probably could have gotten more out of the AR, but looking at the dollar value I put in vs. what I got, I'm content that it was close to equal.
Thanks again, I'm off to buy .45 reloading dies....

My experience with my PT1911 has been positive I have 1500 rds through mine with no probs.

Its a $500-$600 1911. slightly better than a RIA but below a Springfield.

I would of told some one to F--- off if they offered that for any AR, PTAC or not.

That $500 AR could turn into $2000 quick if another gun grab happens, especially now with president Zero's newest 1.1 billion toward gun control.

And if he totally bans them, the value could go to zero.

It is hard to base these decisions on "what if".

I've only known a couple of people who owned PF1911s, but both were big fans of the gun.

I never shot either, but, based on seeing one of these up close, they seemed built well enough. It certainly seemed to be well within what I would expect in their price range.

Now, it always seemed.....wrong, to own a 1911 with a Brazilian arms manufacture's name on the slide, which is the same line of reasoning that made me buy an Auto Ordnance over a Norinco back in '91. Sure wish I would have bought the Chinese gun now....

With better options out there from several other companies, you can get a better one with an American name on the slide, but a lot of them are still made in Brazil (and have good reputations)

My "last" 1911 was a used Colt. I bought it over a Springfield GI and still think it was the right call.
