I was thinking about adding a multicam finish/camo to my AR.  I'd like to see it first. Anyone got pictures of theirs? Does it come out well on a 1913 rail or does it look all jacked up from the weird angles?  Also- Would hydrodip and then clear coat of cerakote be the best way to go about it?

I have a 12.75" build that was hydrodipped and then clear coated.  I will try to get some pics, but for the mean time some of my observations are listed below.

Quality - At the time when my gun was done (4-5 years ago) I was told by the applicator that the only company making cerakote hydrodip film was one of the lower quality manufacturers.  The film was thinner and this led to tears during application.  Luckily the company I chose ate the cost and redipped my gun

Wear Resistance - sharp edges (think 1913 rails) are prone to chipping.  I think is due to the hard nature of the clear coat.  Luckily the pattern is so busy that only a keep observer (or upset owner) will notice it

Looks - Because the film is printed under Crye licensing the pattern is as authentic as you can get.

I don't hate the gun skinz idea. I just think i'd prefer a more permanent paint/coating finish

Z- how did you get that finish on it?

I had my gun dipped in ATACS-FG which, for all intents and purposes, is a direct competitor for the areas that multicam excels. As said previously... edges chip. Since the aluminum was blasted prior to application, the worn edges are gray, not black.
