I have a Mk2 I bought from AIM last year and want to dura-coat it Combat Black.  The finish on it is the enamel like finish right now.  I'm not expecting this to turn out to be museum quality, more of a learning experience.

What is the best way to remove the original finish?  Looking at this Evapo-Rust look like it works pretty well from the youtube videos.

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

I've never tried Evaporust for removing paint. I'd try something like Citristrip, or simply beadblast the paint off, followed with a good scrubbing with fine Scotchbrite and denatured alcohol (wear gloves, and watch the ventilation). I'm betting against the paint stripper working on such old paint, but you might get lucky.
