Good luck.  I don't think you'll find one at that price point.

Amateur here, but I use an IWata LPH-80 and they aren't cheap either.

Quite honestly, I have been using the harbor freight guns for years and I have never had a problem with them. The price is 12.99 and I just replace the gun every year.

I have recently been using this Northern tool gun. It does a better job of atomizing the paint in my opinion but the HF gun works just fine as well. The Northern gun cost 64.99

I have never paid 300.00 dollars for a HVLP gun, perhaps I am missing something but I have painted hundreds of guns with KG coatings and I have painted several guns with CeraKote and I have had no problems with the guns.

Try to find one of the small "touch up" HVLP guns. They are great for small stuff like guns. No need to buy a full sized autobody spray gun that dumps out a 12" wide pattern.

For example.....

Dan possibly so; however, all my stuff has come out just fine.

I've sprayed thousands of guns, as I am sure Dan has as well, and I agree with him. There simply isn't a competition here.

It's kind of like comparing a Corolla to a Corvette. They'll both get you there, but there is simply no comparison in performance.

Yep.....once you get a Corvette its pretty hard to trade it in for a pinto..... and I to have done a lot of stuff!

Hey pros, what gun do you prefer?  My Iwata is day and night better than the cheapo guns I used in the beginning, but was curious what each of you prefer.

Iwatas are good to go. Graco Finexs aren't bad, Devilbiss has some good options too.   The main issue is that it's not easy to find stock guns with a .8 tip.

Yep....I have a SRI PRO that I LOVE!!!  I also have a LPH-80 that has its place as well.

SATA if you got the money. But I mainly run an Iwata for most jobs. Been thinking of picking up a SRI because just because Jeff swears by his.

Yep, I'm due for a new one (especially after what happened this morning)  and will probably go that route

Harbor Freight HVLP gun for the occasional home refinisher.
Buy a pro gun if you are using it / cleaning it daily.

The HF gun also has the correct fluid tip installed and can be had pretty cheap and works well, its just not a 24X7 pro quality construction spray gun.

Harbor freight sells a gun with the 0.8mm tip. They've worked well for me, but I don't doubt that the higher end guns are better. There are some great pros posting here, and they have me pondering getting a nicer gun. That means I'll need to get more stuff to refinish, lol.

I use the iwata LPH-80.  My brother is an auto painter and he recommended it and it is also what NIC uses so you can order parts when you order more cerakote.

Probably easier to clean up when your trainee forgets to clean the gun.

I have one of these DeVilbiss jam guns... close to your budget $107

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dvr-802405/overview/

I do also have a "Corvette" Binks M1G with a 1 liter cup, and a Paasche air brush

The air brush is great for certain things but for coating barreled actions guns I prefer the DeVilbiss mini jam gun, small cup, small parts, easy clean up... for the price not a bad rig

It would be great if they'd come with the right tip.

Does anybody have experience with one of the astro guns?

I used an Astro when I first started with Cerakote....it was okay.  I little more money and you can get an SRI or LPH-80 which IMO are better guns.

I am very interested as I am looking for an HVLP in the same price range. 1.0 mm nozzle guns are much easier to find than the recommended 0.8 mm. Here is what I have found so far:

Harbor Freight Central Pneumatic $35
http://t.harborfreight.com/air-tools/paint/hvlp-detail-spray-gun-46719.html

Astro Euro HTV8 $78
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B3REZ7S/ref=s9_simh_gw_p263_d0_i4?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1NVJAMZF76VJHTFFW9XH&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop#productDetails

Sharpe Finex Pro 1000 $120
http://www.spraygunworld.com/products/Sharpe/Sharpe%20Finex%201000.html

I am still trying to decide if I want to make the investment for the hobby (I probably will).  I don't know how different these guns are.  I have used Devilbiss guns before, and if their starting line series had a 0.8 mm tip, I would probably buy one. Right now I am leaning towards the Astro as it might be better than the harbor freight option and significantly less than the Sharpe.

Anybody know of other options in this range?  Suggestions between the 3?  Is there a significant difference between the Harbor Freight and the Astro?
