A friend's turkey gun...before.  I should have taken some pics when I first got it.  It was covered with rust and the finish on the wood was horrible. This was after some steel wool and sanding.

This was after a base coat of Rustoleum Nutmeg followed up with some pinestraw and krylon OD and brown.  The turkey track on the buttstock was the finishing touch.

In it to see the possibilities on my soon to be SBS instead of sending it off to be refinished...

Been a while since I posted this baby.

Mossberg 600AT with a 500 18.5 barrel

Krylon Olive, Khaki, and earth brown

Forgot where I got the stencils, but they were inexpensive.

ETA: I also have a 24 inch barrel for ducks, turkey, etc...

With and without flash. The black furniture actually makes it look darker than it is. (See the Block II in Field Drab next to it)

Really great paint, and a really great color. A *true* coyote (please Lord I hope they keep making it so I don't have to hoard it)

ETA: I posted a pic of the Block II for another guy in this thread here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_19/417004_Pic_Request__Aervoe_field_drab_and_magpul_FDE.html

How well does the paint stick to wood furniture?

It appears to be holding up just fine although my buddy has not used that gun much since I painted it for him.

Here are a couple that I did on an 870 of mine (sorry for the crappy picture quality). I replaced the wood furniture with the Hogue overmold 12" stock and foreend and used the Rustoleum Camouflage series spray paints. I have taken it duck hunting a few times and it has held up pretty well. If I did it over again, I would do two things differently: 1. I would be more patient in waiting for each coat to dry before painting the next coat, and 2. I would have let more the tan color come through.

About to do 870 HD build (started as express with that lovely express matte blue ) with engine paint in either satin black or cast iron, probably VHT or Duplicolor ceramic.... Any advice on sandpaper grit to prepping that factory blue and for hitting the light pitting on receiver?  dremel wire brush just not cutting it..

Buehler?  Anyone use a primer with their rattle can?  I was going to prep and take rust off with 400 grit and apply ceramic engine paint....was going to avoid primer if possible...

Thats a great camp job and nice looking toms too.  That looks very professional, you have given me courage to do that to my turkey gun.

I used Krylon OD green. Its been about 4 years or so. There are some spots where it has scraped off.

400 or 600 grit paper depending on the pitting.  600 just to rough up bluing.  400 should rough up the blue nicely and take care of any pitting.

I was really pleased with how this came out.  I custom cut stencils in amorphous shapes and patterns but also some grass blade and tree branch shapes.  By using a template cut in the center of some tag board it allows you to fade different colors throughout the stencil.  It also allows you to vary light colors over dark and dark over light.  Most of my hunting with this Browning Gold is in a wooded setting.  For this year, I am going to add some lighter areas in both green and tan to allow it to blend better http://" />in the field as well.
