If referring to mine, I think it's the interior lighting (lights off, indirect light from window). It's much brighter in person.

My first go at this rattle can stuff, still a work in progress.  Aervoe field drab base, with some forrest green.  Right now I think I'd like a little brighter green, might do a very little brown as well.

Enjoyed my first camo job, so this time I went for aesthetics.

Plain black is boring so brown it is in just the upper, lower, and rail. This one's a truck/home defense gun, so it won't see field use unless the S really HTF.

Usually not much of a drinker, but sometimes it's necessary

I must have missed some oil on the barrel because it was flaking there just sitting in the safe, so I pulled the rail of and cleaned the paint off with some Hoppe's.

The barrel is scrawny so it probably won't stick out in the brush, just look like a twig

No idea. I removed all the stocks anyway since they were already some sort of earth tone, so hitting the buffer tube was a no-brainer. Makes the stocks fit a hair tighter, too.

I've had a few of my tighter fitting stocks get kinda gummy feeling when adjusting them, so I usually paint with it collapsed.

My LMT buffer tube was crazy tight with a SOPMOD stock once I painted it.  Sorta wish I’d left it the LMT gray just for that reason.

Exercise it a bit. It'll wear in fine. Then you'll no longer wish you had left it.

The rifle is a SIG 716i Tread, it's the factory handguard.

I painted it in November of 2019.  It wasn’t a matter of wearing in...you could see the contact marks in the paint between the stock and the buffer tube.  I had to take a dowel with some 200 grit sand paper and take some material from the inside of the SOPMOD.  It was so tight before, holding the rifle by the stock, muzzle down, and depressing the adjustment lever, the weight of the entire rifle with full magazine, suppressor and Aimpoint wasn’t enough to make it budge.

Looking for some inspiration. I duracoated this beater several years ago in burnt bronze. I’d have to use that as a base color so I’m looking for suggestions on something on top of it in a pattern.

You can just put another base coat over it. I didn't base coat my rifles. Just a stripe here, a stripe there, until no black was left.

It would look cool with a black hex pattern on the bronze...

Spare parts gun was the test bed for this paint job. I've only painted 2 other guns before this. If I was gonna do it again I'd spray the pink as the base coat instead of black, but it's not terrible for a first attempt.

Inspired by Swedish M90

I was too cheap to buy a proper stencil so I made my own. Laid down strips of painters tape, slightly overlapping, on a smooth glass surface. Once I had a big enough rectangle/square I used a razor blade to cut random geometric shapes out and place them on the gun before a new coat of paint was applied.

Definitely went on a little thick in some spots, but I blame the beer and getting excited to see it finished.

Long-time lurker / I browsed through all 62 pages of this thread by now, to get ideas for my next paint job lol.

In the meantime, here's something I threw together and figured I should add to the database: Colors are Duracoat aerosol HK Blue/Gray and NWU Light Blue, with Multicam vinyl stencils to retain some of the original black anodizing and plastic underneath.
