The fact that there are different brands placed on different locations and facing different directions. Like you can't do that. This is 2016. We need a trigger warning these days for this mess.

Lol,  hope you were able to find your safe space.

Truth is I'm runnimg the mix for flexibility.  Normally the upper is on an SBR lower, so has a VFG.  Its on a pistol lower for deer season here in Indiana, so took off the VFG and put the magpul hand stop in its place.

Paint looks best when it gets soiled with burnt powder and oil residue, and starts to wear away.

Thanks, it's a pair of Afg war rugs.  Bottom is more or less a decade old (or at least that's when it was bought), top was from my last trip over (12-13).

If you do it right it doesn't last long at all. <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

For those that like the worn look rattle can is great.
I love it.
If you want durability rattle can isn't really the best.
I would imagine with good prep it would last OK depending on use.
I do minimal prep. Spray with brake parts cleaner and air, 2-3 coats, done. Get out and use it asap, I hate the "fresh" look.

Just go to Walmart and buy a mesh laundry bag and cut a swatch out to use as a stencil. As for durability, some spray paints last longer than others, but the best paint jobs are partially worn off. Krylon tends to last longer than most, Rustoleum is so-so, and is what I use, along with a good base of Skillcraft Tan Obliterating Compound.

Basically, quit being a pussy and spray-paint a gun. Only way to know what's up. <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

He wasn't meaning to offend you, he's just motivating you to try it for yourself.  Spray painting a rifle isn't artistic, it's as simple as blasting it with a base color and then throwing a few different colors at it to "camouflage" the rifle.  The last color comes from using it and causing the paint to rub off exposing the original "black" color of the rifle.  It's meant to look like shit (worn, used, wtfe..), we know it looks like shit and we love it more so for it.  If you want your camouflage to look gun-safe kept (regardless how much you use it) then you may want to have someone professionally have it coated with Cerakote.

Well if the rattle can look isn't for you and "looks like shit", why are you here?  Go pay someone to cerakote it and leave it in the back of the safe if you want it to look pristine and never used.

You could do the wax paper stencil method and really take your time painting it.  Someone posted some pictures like that a few weeks ago, he used woodland colors with mutlicam shapes.  It was a really nice mix and turned out great.

also if you throw a couple coats of clear over the whole thing when you're done, that'll help keep it from wearing away if that's not the look you're going for.  but seriously, the whole point of a rattle can finish is the wear.  proves the rig gets used.
