I'm new to the AR game and decided to paint mine for better concealment when hunting. Thank you all for all of the tips and tricks.

Thanks. It's the first time I've ever tried using a mesh laundry bag.

I did something... a little different. Crossing over from the Bump-SAW thread.

Disclaimer - the only red part I did was the carry handle, the rest is either anodized red or cerakoted red. The upper and stock are the bits I did.

Tried out the Duplicolor Coat Cast Iron. Pretty happy with the results.
Did 2 regular coats and finished with a lighter misting coat.
Flash cured each piece with a heat gun on low before baking.
Baked it in the oven starting at 150* working my way up to 300* in 50* increments every 25 minutes.
Sorry for the poor pics as I am no photog. Took pics under different lighting conditions.

These are the cans of paint that I used,  I believe my base coat was the camo sand on the far left.

Here is how it turned out after adding splotches and putting my Aimpoint back on

My normal coyote gun is waiting for a new barrel. So did some swapping, pulled out some spare parts, busted out the paint to give it a 30sec paint job and Boom! New coyote gun.

It's ain't pretty but it should shoot straight.

Trying to come up with a "Wetlands" look that I'll use on my Duck/Goose shotgun for this season.  I've done some rattle can on my AR's using some saw grass and other weeds to make a similar pattern, but always noticed that the weeds didn't stay in place, and the khaki base wasn't as "golden" as some of the other wetland camo is.

So I started experimenting with a PMAG since my 870 has black plastic on it.  This is a good first step, but not quite what I had in mind.

I started with a base coat of satin "Squash" Rustoleum, and my typical Khaki color I would use on AR's.  I took some heavy twine and wrapped up the magazine in some random patterns to try to duplicate wetlands grass.   I didn't come out as well as I thought it would, and think I need to do a few things better on rev 2.

1)  Stick with the base (hard to see in this picture at dusk) since it does have a more "golden" look that is closer to the grass and weeds we typically have here in late fall and winter.

2)  Mike in some actual blades and stalked from some of the camo I use on my duck blind to give it more dimension, and perhaps a few more wraps of the twine to get less coverage of darker colors.

Anyone else try for a similar pattern?

I'm trying to do something more like this, and definitely need less of the darker colors.  Obviously to get that detail I'd be best off hydrodipping (might in the future), but like the DIY rattle can approach.

Aervoe Earth Yellow may be what you seek for your base, and their Earth brown is real nice as well.

My beater KISS rifle was showing a good bit of bare, shiny metal.   I rattle-canned it last night and am not unhappy with it.   Its going to wear again, and maybe next time I'll try something different, but for now it suits the geography.
