It's cool.

You're talking about the post and rifle below.  It does look like a sponge but maybe he can chime in.  I like the A-TACS look too it.

It's pretty similar to the sponge technique, but sans sponge lol. You guys are going to laugh when I tell you. I'll edit this post with the info in a bit.

Here you go:

I used three colors. Sand, medium brown (Flat Brown), and dark brown (Earth Brown). Here's some shitty phone pics.

Light layer:

Medium (nozzle clogged while spraying of course):

Dark brown in the middle of the medium:

Then... a dryer sheet (USED). Pull on it a bit to open up a pattern, then spray over it with the dark color.

[/url]

I didn't take my time with this, and handled it while wet, so it's sub par lol.

But there ya go.

I've seen nozzles for sale for specific brand spray cans that spatter the spray but i suspect you clogged the nozzle yourself.
Request what you did for that effect.
Thanks

This was my first time painting a rifle and it turned out OK. I had higher hopes but some things didn't go as planned and I rushed to finish so it is what it is.

Duracoat base color Tactical Desert Warrior applied with a cheapo airbrush kit. It went on perfectly even and turned out as well as I could've hoped.
</a>" />

Stencils on, only took 3 hrs to apply
</a>" />

Krylon ultra flat camo tan, green, brown sprayed from the can
</a>" />

Finished with overspray of the brown and green to tone down how light it was.
</a>" />

*Nerd Alert* In honor of Fallout 4 I decided to do a "wasteland" camo pattern with majic desert tan, rustoleam brown, matte black engine paint and a touch of aervoe foliage. It was looking great and horrendous until I found a can of clear enamel my wife had bought last year. It wasn't until after I sprayed it on that I realized it was a gloss finish and not a matte finish.

THE HORROR!! TOO SHINEY:

So this morning I took a very fine sandpaper to it to get some of the shine off. After scrubbing there are spots that still have shine and others that are faded and matted.

The result is the ugliest rattle can paint job I've ever seen...mission accomplished!

I used Mcnett Camo Wrap over the rail (didn't coat the Geissele).  I'll probably hit the scope with some foliage when I get a free afternoon.

i tried to make it cool lol. thx
-I used all rustoleum for the shown colors. I tried a reddish brown primer and it was way toooo red so I covered it up with brown. no idea if it will wear through and look like  shit later LOL.
I just use all ultra flat. khaki base with the earth brown random stripes and then MK12 thread mesh bag piece (literally I got a piece off a MK12 cloner mailed to me LOL. so hard to find!) with brown to fade from solid brown to mesh, then the dark green random lines. no black this time and only the brown was meshed. I don't like too much mesh look. this time I left a good amount of khaki showing,
its very tricky to get it right. some tips:

-tan or khaki (your choice) first. get rifle coated

-do brown streaks, use different angles and spray closer and stop and start halfway through receiver or rail....tigerstripe looks cool.....but doesn't blend as much.

-green can touch brown, but I try and do a TAN, green/brown, TAN, green/brown flow throughout

-about halfway through you WILL SAY: oh shit I fucked up" lol. just keep going.

-temperature...I sprayed this when it was 50deg. its possible, but 60 or above is nicer

One of my 11year old daughters has a purple 9mm on her Christmas list.  I had parts, and have wanted an excuse to build a 9mm.

I hope she digs it.

Did this 6.8SPC the other day. Used the dryer sheet method posted a few pages ago. All Rustoleum -- Camo series Sand and Earth Brown, and regular flat Brown.

Cross posted to the Sponge Camo Tutorial thread. Used Rustoleum Camo Khaki and Brown and also Satin Chestnut Brown. iPhone pics make it look a little worse than it is, in real life it is much more blended.

First try with Krylon.   Hard to do when it's below freezing.   Preheated the pieces,  and flashed off between coats.

ETA: Didn't realize Imgur was broken.

Has anyone tried to match Aervoe field drab with something from krylon or ?  I have an upper/lower/scope/mount done in aervoe FD but I won't have enough to do a new stock and handguard.  I'm just wondering if I can just go to Walmart, Home Depot, lowes, etc. and pick up a substitute instead of having to place an order and pay for the shipping if I don't have to.

It's just Krylon Khaki.  They refer to it as "Ultra Flat".  It looks more green in that photo than in person.  I think it's my daylight bulbs screwing with it.  This one is closer to reality.
